It was an ugly WCAL football weekend for the Crusaders, three games, three one-sided losses to Serra. Frosh lost, 37-0; JV lost 35-0; varsity lost 45-7 with a running clock.

But kudos to Padres' coaches who substituted freely in second half, let the clock run down on most plays in the fourth and stopped passing in the fourth as well. Riordan was under-manned and overwhelmed. Classy work by the San Mateans to keep things from getting really hideous.

Riordan’s D started well as Serra had to go to the double wing after Smith’s 3 picks . Last time they did that was against Folsom. Riordan line grew weary as Crusaders decimated by injuries to its key players, but it’s next man up. Kinda like the Bells getting 21 (14 pts in 6seconds) put up on them last night

It was a game early on until Serra figured to run the ball against the line thin Crusaders. Future is bright as the JVs have beaten SHP , VC and Bellarmine . Frosh struggling as many of the kids are playing football for the first time. Will be interesting to see the development of the program in the next few years under Coach Adhir.

It does appear that injuries to key players and linemen up to this point has really stunted the progress of what early on seemed like a really promising 1st year under new head coach. Cannot argue the talent that they have compiled in such short time but these games where the offense has mightily struggled is a bit concerning.

Next week is probably a loss vs SF. SH will have revenge on their mind for last year. SI game is probably a win for Riordan.

Looking at the state of the Riordan varsity roster at this point in the season, underdog status for all remaining games seems very likely. That includes SI.
