I haven’t been for a few years, but here are the rosters.Has anyone attended Pro-Am this season, wondering if it's worth a trip to the City to check out
Seems like the rosters have always been kind of fluid, my experience is that there's never a full turnout, or close to it from game to gamehow do all them get any run? so many on each team
that guy was ayalar sr.The fluid rosters have always been that way, to my knowledge... The only year I went to that Pro-Am (way inconvenient to get to from Concord) was when Jason Kidd tore up that league in '94 just before going to Cal.
Jason missed a couple weeks due to other things like Cal camps (I think). Gary Payton was also on Jason's team and missed about half the weeks.
Most of the teams had a few guys who were truly local and could always be counted on to be there for every game... The rest of the rosters were often a crapshoot.
I do remember this one team that had a skinny, balding, 40-ish guy who looked like he was there for comic relief... Until you saw him play. He outhustled just about everyone, was alllllllways moving without the ball, and could REALLY shoot! And he was team captain. One game, he was nowhere to be seen at tipoff, and the game went on... A few minutes into the game, he came racing in, and went down an aisle and right onto the court, waving one of the other players to the bench. And then he scored like 30 points and carried his team to victory.
😭😭.. SF Pro Am was pretty legendary back in the day. A real treat before the “world wide web” took over and people like the professor from the and1 tour filled our feed.that guy was ayalar sr.
The Chavez brothers and now their kids are local legends from Drake HS in San Anselmo (now Archie Williams) - they could all play!Kiddman you are speaking of Eddie Joe Chavez. Dude was a legend and could flat out shoot the three. He was Kurt Rambis point guard at Santa Clara and they remained great friends since. I was playing in a adult league one year with David Ortiz, Bill Avalos, and a few others. One game this bum looking dude walks in and starts shooting warm ups at our hoop. I was like who the hell is this guy. One guy said, who, man that’s Eddie Joe, you will learn who he is shortly. His brother Bucky played in the pro am for quite a few years as well. Eddie went to a drake high and get this was drafted in the 6th round 1978 NBA draft.
Not to put the very knowledgeable HSWIZARD on the spot, but it was really Eddie Joe’s younger brother Bucky who was the ProAm legend. A bit taller than Eddie Joe (6’5 vs. 6’3), but he was more of the scorer where Eddie Joe was more of a true facilitating PG..Kiddman you are speaking of Eddie Joe Chavez. I’m assuming skylar Chavez who starred at srjc and then played at Pepperdine is part of the family. Not to put the very knowledgeable HSWIZARD on the spot, but it was really Eddie Joe’s younger brother Bucky who was the ProAm legend. Great knowledge, Larry….Bucky’s son.I’m assuming skylar Chavez who starred at srjc and then played at Pepperdine is part of the family.

Yes, that was Jabari Bird (Salesian High, Cal, Celtics). He played one game a few weeks back for the South Bay Spartans. Looked happy and played well (30+ points). He's trying to get his career back on track. Frankie Ferrari played with the South Bay Spartans this week as well.did anybody else read the rosters and see a 6'6 J. Bird? If it's Jabari, i google every so often to see if his career has resumed overseas and have never found anything
who did the last 2 you mentioned play for? also why jamari playing for PG and not soldiers?LIke everyone discussed, each game was fluid and it really did come down to who showed up for some teams. Also, there where rosters with 20+ players on it some nights. Way too many IMHO. Several familiar local players on each roster. Some of the younger players who showed up and showed out were Jamari Phillips who just scored 30+ on ESPN for Paul George's team vs. the Oakland Soldiers last night. He hit about 6-7 3's one game (4 in a row in consecutive possessions). Mikey Lewis and a junior from Serra, Ryan Pettis, played very well against older competition too.
The HS young men play AAU and in the Pro AM. Historically, each SF Pro Am team usually has/have 1-2 highly touted high school player/s on its squad. You can go to the SF Pro Am website and take a look at the rosters. Have no idea why Jamari was on PG and not the Soldiers. I stopped coaching AAU several years back once my son graduated from HS/started playing college ball.who did the last 2 you mentioned play for? also why jamari playing for PG and not soldiers?
