I’m guessing both Phillips and McCain are going to go to prep schools next year. If those guys leave, as I’m predicting, then your event will not be nearly as good as the Gridley.

Really? I had no idea. I should call Fantazia and Giles and tell them there best players are leaving their respective schools because Ayalar09 is guessing and predicting.

You better make sure they are not, else hell you might have to cancel the whole thing, LOL. Nice lineup by the way.
Exactly. Well as we all know McCain is a Sacramento kid. Giles told him he would get a game back home(besides winning a state title). MC has a great thing going, and Phillips has no reason to leave yet IMO.

Taft is absolutely loaded this year (Aj Johnson is 81 on ESPN 6’4 guard)( keyon kensie 6’8 g/f with multiple d1 offers) they may lose a kid to Southern section or prep because that happens a lot to LA city schools. If they don’t lose anyone they will be Ridiculous.

Owhyee is also very very good. Liam Campbell (transferred from Harvard-Westlake) is a stud and will be a major d1, already has multiple d1 offers. And sophomore Jake Rasmussen 6’8 is a mid- d1 kid as well.

People didn’t think Vyctorious Miller would leave Crean Lutheran. And boom he’s going to AZ Compass…..this stuff is so fluid. So to book a tournament this early is in a way smart but in a way dumb at the same time.

Phillips is more likely to stay than McCain. McCain is going to end up at Prolific or SCA. People don’t realize how little talent Prolific has returning next season, and they are going to want to compete again.

So tell us. The Gridley line up is set. Last year the Nor Cal Tip Off Classic was announced on this site on July 20th, let’s me guess all the teams were called on July 1st saying hey want to play.

However you think Sheldon hosting teams that you claim guys may go to prep school, such as Centennial Corona, the 2nd ranked team in the nation who traveled to Arizona, Texas, and another tournament playing teams from Minnesota and Wisconsin, Coach should wait to book them and hold off from calling. You know how many phone calls teams like that get. And then add in Modesto Christian and the team from out of state.

Dude let me keep it real, you truly say some dumb stuff. And if I am not mistaken didn’t you guys play in the Burlingame tournament. Stick to commenting on those, cause Sheldon is very smart to be calling powerhouse teams way early and who may go to prep school has Jack crap setting up tournaments with high level teams. But hey sometimes teams drop out, so maybe that team from San Francisco with a new state title should keep their phone close.

Coach it is evident this dude has never spent a day coaching high school basketball. Like the great, darn his name slips my mind, legendary college coach said, “if you listen to the people behind you you will one day be sitting with them.” His fan side comes out all the time.

Well, I can tell you Klitzing had a pretty good idea miller was leaving. Ayalar09 doesn’t realize the guys he’s talking about, we actually play against and have relationships with. We spoke with Nate about Crean coming up. Nate was coaching OLu when we forget our jerseys at home in 2016. He’s a good guy and knew something, most times when kids leave, it’s a shock to the Hoop world but NOT to the Coach.

As I stated 3 weeks ago on another thread this is a 2 day showcase event and not a tournament. Some teams will play one game , some will play 2. Gridley felt Sheldon wasn’t good enough so they had to find some games. Regardless of who stays , who goes , who’s eligible or not, injured , all of these teams are still very good high school teams. These teams and games with or without players will be better than anything you’ll get to witness around here. Sheldon goes to Vegas to the Tarkanian every year minus players and still competes at a high level.

Ayalar on the other thread you did pretty good you guessed Sheldon and MC . 😂. IF you pay close attention you will see Sheldon plays in LA every year and sometimes 2-3 x per year. You don’t think it’s a stretch to think they have bonds built to get teams to come play. Heck that loaded Rainier Beach team from Seattle came couple years ago.

@HSWIZARD73 Ayalar better not wait to close to the phone . That is unless he wants to schedule his State Ship team vs Sheldon JV.

Heat he wouldn’t answer. If a D3 or D2 team has no chance against the worst D1 teams, then it would be a waste to schedule a JV team against a state champion. So if Sheldon comes up on the caller ID, it’s going straight to voicemail.

Ok a showcase event……let’s say I’m wrong. Let’s say McCain stays, even though he has a potential 2 Yr 1 mil deal on the line. Who out of that group is really going to give Centennial a game? Seriously, I’m waiting. Maybe Taft, but then why would they waste their time when that game can be played locally?

No I am not a Coach. But I’ve watched enough HS Basketball, and most recently have watched the landscape change to a point where people like McCain have rookie cards out right now. I think it’s extremely glib of the Sheldon Coach to think that none of these teams will look different come December. Some Prep Schools haven’t even begun their recruiting for next season.

Many of you bashed the Gridley because it wasn’t competitive enough. I think this years Gridley lineup is much more competitive. While there is no Centennial or Campolindo, there are 7 teams capable of winning that tourney.

Oh and as for that Idaho state championship team……all those other teams, including Sheldon will absolutely mop the floor with them. California State basketball is rivaled by few States. Yeah they are the champs in Idaho, but in California maybe as good as University. Maybe. And that’s a stretch.

Anyways Good Luck with these games. If you guys really created this because you weren’t good enough for the Gridley, what makes you think you’ll be able to compete with teams like Centennial, Campo and Taft?????

First off, Gridley is a friendly town with a lot of great people involved in what they do. This has nothing to do with Gridley. Second why don’t you look at Owyhee on Maxpreps again. There is a reason they were top bracket at Damien. Also MC only lost by 10 to centennial with centennial losing a pac 12 Pg. MC is returning everyone and returning a stud from injury.
You have no idea about Owyhee nor did you know about Taft. Come to Sheldon on Dec 2nd and 3rd you can see what HS hoops are like outside the Bay Area

Also just to let you know… Owyhee went 3-1 vs California teams this season beating Sheldon ( NorCal open team), St Bernard( SoCal d1 runner-up), Etiwanda ( you know about them right?). And losing to eventual D1 state champ Damien on Damien’s home floor. These are strictly facts Sir, not guesses or predictions.

Coach let me tell you why this dudes logic is so out of whack. So based on his train of thought, should we worry about the MLK event run by De La Salle, I mean a guy can get hurt, be ineligible, etc…….

Should Mater Dei football be careful about who they schedule. I mean who goes to say the star QB suddenly does not decide to bolt to IMG Academy.

What if a few players on Taft got into some sort of trouble and suddenly got suspended for the season.

So we can all live off of what if’s, but the most ironic thing I find in all of what Ayalar is saying, when people gave him a hard time about Stuart Halls participation trophy, you know what he kept saying.

YOU PLAY THE TEAM IN FRONT OF YOU. Maybe not his exact words, but definitely along that line.

But now due to possible prep school bolts, it’s kind of dumb you would put up such a event.

Ayalar of curiosity and serious question, since Gridley and Sheldon’s showcase is a part of this thread, is Stuart Hall being a state title champion gonna step it up and not play in a tournament with Menlo School and Hillsdale in it. I mean some strong teams will use those as a quick tuneup, but then step it up come Christmas time. So what’s on their agenda if any.

I decided to look up the guys you are speaking of.

AJ Johnson: Texas, ASU, Xavier, Missouri and a host of others.

Keyon: Washington State, New Mexico

Liam: USC and Washington State, San Diego and a few and he has two years left.

And of course McCain and Phillips.

Nice stack of talent for a showcase.

Look our school is 200 kids. Meanwhile the schools in this tournament are huge public schools. Doesn’t seem quite fair to me.

I actually know Stuart halls schedule next year and it’s already wrapped up. We don’t have room for any other games.

At no point have I ever argued that next season we could compete with a Sheldon or any of the other teams playing in either tournament.

I go to the games, I don’t schedule them. I’ll gladly attend this event, if those kids stick around. Better chance Phillips sticks around than McCain, but I just have a feeling at Prolific next season we will be seeing a backcourt of Zion Sensley and Jamari Phillips.

So SH has already completed their schedule for next year. But coach locking in teams for the Sheldon showcase this early is dumb?

Shouldn’t SH wait until all their opponents rosters are fully set? What if one of the teams in the Hillsdale tournament has a kid transfer in or transfer out?

Bella I was going to put that earlier this AM,
but I got sidetracked. But then again it’s much easier to schedule the bottom 200 plus teams in the state versus the elite in the state. So sure why not wait to schedule the elite, due to prep school transfers nobody would ever expect the elites phones ringing until mid July.

Tell us what is Stuart Hall’s schedule next season. Back at the Burlingame tourney. Back at the Lincoln tourney. Playing AAA schools who took 3 out of 4 games from you guys last season.

Respect your love for the knights, but need to know if that schedule will get beefed up after winning state.

Anyone have CCs and MCs roster handy? I’m sure McCain and Philips left, right? McCain for sure according to our resident ‘insider’ @ayalar09
