Congrats to SHP. They are a very good team. SHP started out hot leading 9-2. Riordan D forced an 0-13 stretch and it was tied at half 21-21. 2nd half SHP made their shots and FTs, Riordan did not. Ballgame. Riordan really missed Galindo as the had no 3 pt threat.

They have only had one shooter or offensive threat on the court all year. Stansberry. They have some really good athletes that can play defense but only Stansberry seems to have developed an offensive game or brought it with him.

Without Galindo this team has really struggled on the offensive side of the ball. I dont think anyone would have thought so prior to the injury, but with Galindo hurt, they have no one that can knock down the 3 point shot consistently to spread out the floor, so Stanberry can do what he does best and its drive to the hole. Now, defensed collapse knowing theres no one out on the perimeter who can hurt them. And more often or not, Stansberry is forcing shots as he tries to carry the offensive load. That said, it will be a short trip to Norcals, unless Galindo returns.

Three out of the first four league games they only scored 32, 38 and 43.

I watched Riordan play 3 times this year: vs O'Dowd, SI at SI and SH at SH. Galindo was hurt vs SH but in the first 2 games I watched, other than Stansberry, he was the only other player who could put up points consistently. Against O'dowd he kept them competitive with his 3-pointers.

OneDNA brings up a valid point, without Galindo, teams can clog up the lane which hurts Stanberry's game. Teams had to at least honor his three ball which opened up things for ES. It appears teams are making the other players beat them.

SHSI do you know if Tonga and or Mitchell were added to the playoff roster? And if they were did they get to break the rotation? I can see Tonga's willingness to bang inside as a very valuable asset in the playoffs.

Pretty feeble offensive numbers. Defense has really kept them in all of their games. They kept SHP who was averaging 72 points a game to 21 at the half and 51 for the game...Considering Stansberry is the only offensive threat on the team (and all the teams know this), it's amazing the Crusaders finished 4th in league. I can't understand why there is not another decent perimeter shooter on this team? Cardenas came through against SF, but was used sparingly vs SHP. This deficiency is definitely magnified in CCS and upcoming NorCals and will most likely lead to an early exit. It's a shame that Colton was ineligible this season.

Geary, I do not believe they were but I am not certain. Cheers would be the ultimate authority.

The offense struggled with or without the spot up shooter who got hurt. I think Stansberry might have lead the league in scoring yet the Riordan offense was still pretty feeble. This is nothing new. For reference, Tim Reardon's offense at SI used to get criticized (myself included) and Buckner's offense is pretty bad as well year in and year out. Talent is not an excuse. SHP beat Riordan with a good offensive system and far less talent and size.

Richard Buckner's career team offense PPG rank (out of 8 teams): 5th, 5th, 5th, 7th, 7th, 4th, 6th, 7th.

Tim Reardon's career team offensive PPG rank (out of 8 teams): 3rd, 7th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 6th, 6th, 4th.

Only the 2012-13 Crusader team had more than one good 3 pt shooter - Ferrari and Arenas. All of Buckner's other teams only had one reliable 3 pt shooter, at best, on each team. The rest of the players were slashers/scorers. I agree the offense has been feeble, but Coach Buckner's results the past few seasons has brought 3 consecutive Open appearances and 2 consecutive appearances in the NorCal title game.
This must be a Crusader tradition, but there is always one senior player that is on the roster that hasn't played previously at all or for a year or two. This year's edition is Andrew Trapsi. What is up with that? Lol!
The Crusaders could certainly use Clayton Ladine, a former Riordan student who transferred to Burton and is the State's leading scorer and #3 in the Nation averaging 37+ pts/game. Wow! Imagine Stansberry, Ladine, Aussie Robert Colton and Galindo as your zone-busters!

Ex-Riordan Player Clayton Ladine

Wow, from JV bench player to the state's leading scorer and the Bay Area's all team leading scorer in 1 year? I know that Burton's schedule is nothing like the WCAL but that is a great story.

The AAA Division II was extremely weak (can only think of Wallenberg as competitive). Nonetheless, the kid did have some skills; enough skills to be part of Riordan's rotation this year I hear of the circumstances of him transferring to Burton (that seem legitiment). However, I wonder if Riordan's pursuit of the Australian kid played any part in him transfering and/or Riordan coaching staff lack of interest in having him stay.

IMO its amusing to think Ladine would have had the consistent success he had this year in the AAA in the WCAL. Defenses are just one of the differences such as closing out on perimeter shooters which is not exactly a staple of the AAA. That said, I think RB said he definitely would have been part of the rotation and as mentioned above the transfer was legitimate. IMO this wasnt the difference maker that could have pushed Riordan over the top. Great for the kid though to see him excel and exploit the also ran competition in the AAA and also his Father implemented a system where he could put up a ridiculous amount of shots. Didn't fare well for them in the post-season though as Ladine was locked down in the playoffs by Wash.
