SI over Sacred Heart Fightin Irish

Saw Romello Dunbar was not even there? Where is he at? Another hiatus like couple years ago? Grades? What's the issue?

High level basketball for sure being executed by both teams...SHC was competitive and didn't have anything to be ashamed about....good win by SI. Hollins and overall team played above average, but you can not expect perfection, what I admired is there was no lack of hustle by SHC... this game was definitely like a football game, lots of contact. I do not know what is going on with Dunbar but he was sitting behind the team bench in the stands...even without him at point guard, the back-ups had some positives so I hope he see's he has to work harder to be compared to his brother or others..I'm not sure if Jr. Sean Ramos should have been called for all those fouls against SI point guard, Trammell. Sophs Redmond and Trammel look good and showed a lot of poise for their age, Trammell was ice on the free throw line. Key player for SI was the senior Emery though, he was a monster tonight. Coach Marceletti might get coach of the year if he keeps this up for turning this team around. It always is fun to watch, there are many players on both teams that will get to play each other plenty again...I loved the competitive spirit tonight, not the score, Bruce and Mahoney should be proud. Fool-butt, go find a rivalry for Reardan that can match this one...sorry, it isn't Riordan and SI or Riordan and SHC, must be tough to be the bastard child in the city:)

SHCP 0-23 in WCAL football over the last four years. Who is the bastard child in the city?

Dunbar was behind the bench around the scorers table. No idea what his situation is.

Si almost gave this one away, the PG was clutch with his free throws down the stretch & so was the last kid who gave SI the lead. Good execution off in bounding plays, before the last 20 seconds.

SHC needs Ramzi to focus on rebounding, cleaning up misses & defense. Hollins and their FR Smith played well.

Hollins did more than play well. There's a reason ESPN has him as a four star recruit. 14 first half points. None in the 3rd qtr as SI did a great job on defense. 16 in the fourth including their first 12 points.

@Scotch Evil in case you don't know yet: SHC Lost.

Yeah they did lose...but you don't get the Bruce Mahoney trophy either...It is a time honored tradition. Btw, I don't mind Riordan, just Foolbutt. What does football have to do with basketball again?

Yes, SHC played tonight....what more do you expect from high school kids? Were they perfect, no...but the effort was there and with that effort they will win more games than lose.

I think the action after game was interesting, not fair to Irish coaching staff. I don't think Romello is a SHC student anymore by choice.

Looked like a SH parent had some words with the coaching staff after the game on the floor. Any insight what that was about?

Let's call it a different view on substitution and starters, and coaching. The boys played their hearts out and the outcome is someone won and someone lost. Helluva game, crowd and fans. I'm older now so after each game I like to wait 24 hours at least and then review game. It's not online yet so I get to wait more. Regardless, great coaching on both ends. Again, not fair to approach coaches right after game, especially on the gym floor

I believe Coach Barbour had the right kids on the floor at end of game. Dumbar not suited up (grades?, injured? missed practice?), who knows? at this point who cares? Carter not being in last three minutes. That missed dunk(when a hard drive for layup was more prudent) resulted in a four-point swing and momentum change to Cats. Is that why he was benched? Who knows, who cares? after that. Hollins not starting? Some other infraction? Who knows, who cares? A parent confronting a coach after a game, never a good idea. Look, a lot of the kids who play for SHC are SF Rebel kids. A product of AAU ball and coach kissing up to parents and kids. When things go sideways, these parent act out like they are at a AAU tournament. USF was not the right venue to do this. Bottom line...at end of game, Cats made most of their opportunities; Irish did not. A GREAT game.

The parent confronting the coaching staff was Ramzi Carter's father. Don't know what it was completely about but possibly because if I remember correctly he wasn't in at the end of the game situation. Either way that's a very poor way to display yourself as an adult. I don't think he would like it if the tables were turned. I thought the group on the floor for SHC was playing well and coach Barbour decided to roll with them. Good game and unfortunately someone has to lose.

I'm sorry. If my son was 1-9 from the floor (is that true?; on other thread), had multiple turnovers and a missed a dunk resulting in a four-point swing late in the game. My reaction would be... glad you took him out; its a team game and if he wasnt meant to be in the game at that time, it wasnt meant to be. Own up to it. If he had any words with a coach, I would hope it was,, what can I do to help you guys work with my son.

Doesnt the father realize coach will be talking to future recruiters. Maybe some in the stands watching this. Why present a red flag?

When my son has a sub par game, gets yelled at by his coach and gets taken out. Im more pissed at my son, than the coach (I love those car rides home better now as a parent rather than a child). I then make sure, my Son, (not me) talks with coach next day or practice to see what he needs to do.

Look, the kids game just has to be tweaked. You cant teach height, there's plenty there to work with.

I wish he transferred to Mitty like he was planning on doing. I would not be surprised if this was his last year at SH.

Ramzi Carter, as I posted previously, is a good defender. Offensively, OMG. Complete disaster. If his father was whining, he's a WACKO.

Turtle, youre being generous. A good defender knows his assignment, is not out of position, rebounds and hustles back. If the object of a game is to win and you recognize that the best player on your team is torching the other team, you feed that player every single time. You don't keep laying bricks to where you are 1 for 9 from the field and youre lucky that one shot wasnt waved off for an offensive foul.

I was trying to at least temper the criticism with a positive. I am in full agreement that when you have a highly skilled played who also was hotter than hell, feed him the ball. I've told players with poor offensive skills not to shoot many times. I have no idea why Carter's dad would be angry with the coaches.
