SJS D5 Final - Argonaut v. Brookside Christian

Argonaut tries to equal what their girls just did at Golden1... That is, win Section.

Argonaut is 20-10, Brookside is 25-3. According to MaxPreps, Argonaut's schedule has been a bit tougher and the rankings for the teams are pretty close, Brookside slightly favored.

Not much info on either team, but...

Brookside has a sophomore who is scoring at a 25ppg clip... Name is Geronimo Rubio-De La Rosa. Kid scored 40 in one game this year, he should be interesting to watch...

Argonaut is well coached. Coach Gilliam gets a lot out of whatever he has from year to year. I know nothing about Brookside. Rooting for the public school!

I remember seeing Argonaut in-person last year, and agree with your take... I just haven't seen 'em this year.

12-11 Brookside early... Brookside is a full-court press team, but so far Argonaut is handling the pressure pretty well.

De La Rose of Brookside looks like the real deal thus far...

Quarter ends, 18-14 Argonaut. Looks like they're starting to find weaknesses in Brookside's halfcourt D.

At the half, it's 27-22 Argonaut, as Brookside seems to have caught a nasty case of the missed-layup flu...

30-22 now... Brookside having a *lot* of trouble figuring out Argonaut's variety of zone defenses...

Brookside finally putting a run together... 36-32, Argonaut calls time to settle 'em down. Argonaut ball.

NICE dunk in traffic by Brookside's George Carter! but Argonaut still leads... 42-36.. and Carter then FOULS the 3-point shooter, his 4th foul... Shooter makes just one of three... Quarter ends 43-36, Argonaut.

Brookside gets back within 4... 47-43. 5 minutes left.

scoreboard was wrong.. 47-41 correct score. De La Rosa, who has been held to eight points thus far, tripped up and fouled in backcourt and appears to be limping... But he'll be at the line after a time out.

Sinks both... STEAL and layup, 47-45.

Another turnover.. Brookside another missed layup and rebound foul... 49-45.

Brookside sinks a 3... STEAL, drive, pass, layup... CHARGE on the passer. 49-48. Driver fouled, Brookside at line with a shot to tie or lead... One of two, tie game! And the foul got Argonaut's second foul-out... 49 all.

Argonaut scores, then Brookside turns it over... 51-49. Argonaut fouled, FT's both good. 53-49.

Carter scores on a drive for Brookside... Argo turns it over, Brookside drive, foul... BOTH FT's missed. 53-51, Argonaut fouled... first FT good, second missed. 54-51. Brookside nails a 3! 54 all. Argonaut STEALS! De La Rosa drives, clock running down... FOUL! 0.3 seconds left... De La Rosa shoots FT... GOOD! Time out, but De La Rosa comes out and coolly sinks the 2nd... 56-54. Argonaut has to go the length of the floor and throw something up... Practically impossible.

Argonaut tried to draw a cheap foul on the guy guarding the inbounds passer by running the passer down the baseline and trying to get a "defensive charge"... (Dunno what you'd call it, but I saw this work last season once)... But Brookside doesn't fall for it... long pass downcourt, no time to do anything with it. Brookside wins 56-54. That was a heckuva game!

Good run by Argonaut. They'll be a threat in Norcal D5's.
