After losing close games to Los Gatos and Salinas, St. Francis-Mountain View was finally on the right side of the one run ledger in a 2-1 win over Granada on Tuesday.

An infield single from lead off hitter Josh Lauck, his third time reaching base on the ball, plated senior Garrett McCarthy for the deciding run in the bottom of the seventh inning. McCarthy had entered the game as a pinch runner in the fourth inning.

In a game that featured just one extra base hit, St. Francis got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning. Junior Ricky Martinez had a lead off single and was followed by bunt singles from junior Ryan Higgins and senior Daniel Ydens to load the bases with nobody out against Granada starter Tyler Stultz. Junior Ryan Jeffries' RBI single plated Martinez, but Higgins was thrown out trying to score. Two ground outs ended the threat at just one run.

Fast forward to the sixth inning and Granada had its own bases loaded situation. Facing Lauck, who relieved senior Kyle Joye after five scoreless innings, Granada put its first three runners on in front of senior Zach Patterson, who produced an RBI single to tie the game. However, a ground out, strikeout and line out prevented the Matadors from taking the lead.

Granada leadoff hitter CJ Malski is now 6-for-12 through three games with three singles in the loss.

Stultz, who took the decision in a 1-0 loss to Freedom earlier this year, pitched into the seventh inning and gave up five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Senior Stone Churby faced the final two batters, including a strikeout of Cooper Foard who ended up reaching on the play.

After the start from Joye, who struck out three and hit two batters, Lauck threw the sixth and Martinez worked around a lead off walk in the seventh to get the win.
