Good. That wasn't an especially good site.

As much as I think it would suck to give Mater Dei an effective home game, the Santa Ana Bowl really is a nice facility and would be big enough for the crowds the state games usually get.

Kezar or Napa memorial would be pretty fun alternatives
What is the capacity of both locations? I think we're still on a SoCal cycle, but if these are big enough, maybe they can submit a bid for when the games return to NorCal.

Dignity Health Stadium in Carson is another option. CIF state bowl games have been held there in the past.
Is that what it's called now?

I had a conversation with Mark Tennis at the last games. I told him that when the games were in Carson, it felt like an event. At Cerritos, it felt like high school football games. He agreed.

Memorial Stadium in Napa is a beautiful venue. Probably the best high school facility in Nor Cal. It might be big enough since it's double sided, but the city of Napa itself is kind of troublesome to get to. There aren't many ways in or out, and the hotel accommodations are limited and geared heavily toward wine tourism.

Very Nice Stadium for California standards. A little out of the way, although not far from Sac or the Bay, but the cheaper hotels in Vacaville/Fairfield or Vallejo are a little too far for ease, probably.

Sac City College has a big facility, but Sac St seems to be the go to, although UC Davis has a better facility in my opinion.

Just looked up the stadium for UC Davis and yes, that is really nice.

One issue that no one ever addresses, as far as I know, is that technically, the goal posts width are supposed to be different for high school than for college. For high school the uprights are supposed to be 23'4", while in college and the NFL, they're 18'6". I know there are a lot of shared stadiums, but I don't know that these are ever addressed.

Yes. Dignity Health is the venue sponsor now. Nice stadium. I agree it is an “event” stadium and there are no bad seats in the venue.

Dignity Health is ready for football. San Diego State is playing their "home games" last year and this year there while their new stadium is being built.

SA Bowl is a good venue to watch a game. Plus the jail and morgue are right next door depending on how your night goes after the game.

Bakersfield CC seems like a good fit. More centrally located, good looking venue, and plenty of hotel/motel accommodations.

It is a good venue, but I think the CIF was pretty underwhelmed when they played state basketball in the Central Valley like 10 years or so ago. I think the goal is to get to a region that will likely have one or two local teams.

Do UOP, or any of the colleges that have given up football over the years still have their football stadiums intact? Why not look into using one of those?Long Beach St, Fullerton St,

Haven’t been to UOP in awhile but the last year they hosted the SJS finals, it wasn’t in great shape

I was there at the Oakdale v Whitney. I didn't think the facilities were that bad. But it was one of the coldest games I have been to. My son gave his grandma his beanie!

Avaya Stadium put in a bid for CIF bowls last round and lost to Sac State. The major problem with this venue is the traffic, Everything else is great.
Is it really much worse than in Carson? Close to two freeways, gas station and food across the street... there is that pesky airport across, but that would just make it more convenient for Mater Dei to fly in for the game. 😋

It’s too bad the soccer stadium deal for the Railyards fell through here in SAC.

I figured that would be a no-brainer site in the future.

On a side note — bringing up Napa Memorial caused me to think of West Park HS which opened this year and has a football field w/o a track around it. Looks like a JR college facility. I’ve wanted to check it out but haven’t yet.

Anybody here attended a game there yet?

A field without a track around it is SOOOOOO much better. I know that's completely impractical for most high school's, but you can't deny it's better. The old Memorial Stadium in Napa had no track and the stands were almost too close to the field. Those concrete walls along the sideline were a hazard to the players, they were so close to the field. Still, as a fan, you felt like you were IN the game. Conversely, as a player or a coach, it could sometimes feel like the fans were a little too much in your ear.

I know it is completely unrealistic, but San Francisco State still has their stadium and it is a great venue.

Go see a game at Salinas High sometime.

What about Consummnes River College? On the edge of Elk Grove/Sac. Big stadium with turf field. Side note, they should also bring back football to that juco as well!

what about Santa Clara or st Mary’s?
Jesus people.. sac state makes the most sense .
Location, size, affordability, access.
When I went a few years ago to the games at Sac State, it was so freakin' cold. My brother had gone the year before and said the same thing. Sorry, Sacramento no longer gets my vote.

Forget the year, but the year was when DLS, Pitt, VC and Serra were in it. That was the coldest night I've ever been to for a game!

You think it doesn’t get colder in the Bay? Hell, you often have to wear a jacket in the evening in July let alone in November and December.

One of the reasons I love living in the SAC metro area is we don’t know what real cold is.

It doesn’t typically get down to the low 30s, at least not in the valleys. It will snow every once in a while in the hills, but you don’t see it in actual San Jose or San Francisco.

The temps at the Sac State bowl games were 31-33 degrees.

Those temps aren’t typical for SAC. I’ve lived in the area all my life. Those lower 30’s temps usually are more prevalent in the foothills, not in SAC proper. Sure it can get that cold, but same is true of anywhere.

I don’t think snow has stuck to the ground more than 2-3 times that I can remember. When there is overcast and storm clouds it never gets cold enough for snow. Coldest days are always when it’s clear outside. And low 30’s aren’t super common.

On the whole the Bay area is colder than SAC, especially with wind conditions.

If the goal is to avoid any sort of cold weather, keeping the games down South would be the thing to do. Otherwise it’s negligible. But more likely to be windy and rainy in the Bay.
