As someone who can’t stand the constant AAU thrive and so and so is good from I win by so many points, it’s time to take up and witness the closest thing to a Hoosiers moment the Bay Area has ever witnessed.
It was 2002. Riordan got rocked in the WCAL title and CCS title by my alum SH. At Santa Clara university one of Riordans finest coaches a assitant Richard Buckner at the time said do you all hear that shit. A guy never mentioned by many. That’s when SH came thru the locker area after taking photos getting the trophy. John Tofi who I admired as a player as my grandfather is Samoan born, head down and in disbelief along with Katley and company. So the road we had to hit.
Coach Forslund who some fail to ever ever mention in here said we are going to watch a movie from Riordan to Redding as we had to play at Enterprise. And one hell of a hostile environment. The movie was Hoosiers. But the lesson of the movie wasn’t about us, it was about we have athletes and dogs and they have a kid going to Santa Clara and the fact is anyone at that level can beat the other. Coach Forslund had our meal planned and when we walked into Golden Corral for a late lunch it only took the first three black guys to walk thru the door and for the other people eating say welp their is the punks from San Francisco.
This next game is a school wealthy in history if winning with some of the most less advantage teams on paper. You are talking shout a school that one summer my buddy Coach Buck was busy and said can you coach the fellas at DLS for the summer league tourney and when the staff of DLS walked us back to a locker room next to the football field there was a garbage can full of second place trophies from a Jesuit summer JV tourney.
I am a SH fan first but I am also a Rirodan fan second and a WCAL fan period. But it is time all you AAU minded we have so many D1 players to back these kids and tell them the truth about what can happen.
You have a kid Alec Blair who is a phenomenal athletes and has a supporting cast which by the way our academically smart as hell. I asked Coach Forslund once who was your best team. He said Lowell as I could literally change the offense weekly. And Balboa at the time with Winters Patterson and Marquette Alexander scoring damn near 100 points above game and beating the dog shit out of teams got by Lowell when it counts by 6 and didn’t score close to 60.
If Riordan wants to hang a banner and put another winner in the hall of fame, the AAU we have way more D1 players and DLS doesn’t have a chance you can throw that shit out the window.
Riordan by far is one of the most powerful teams of all times with a great defensive coach genius added to the staff and Curtin and his staff, great players in themselves better take this game as every possession will count period. And the team with the most possessions and execution will win a very close game. Hoosiers had one team very powerful aka Riordan with athletes all up and down the roaster. The other team had one guy skilled like Alec Blair and a bunch of role players. RIP GENE HACKMAN.
Choose a side but for the sake of high school basketball I hope no matter who wins you AAU prep school guys respect the real game if basketball. Cause for once in a very long time, we have David versus Goliath. Goliath better respect the game.
Jeremey Lin has a state title ring cause he played David. And so do some others.
In closing I will be in Cancun and I hope I can find a way to watch Hossiees Part 2. Good luck to two private schools who both have very rich history in winning in moments when it counted. Two high schools with state title banners, which one will add the next. Of course you got to beat the south which is not going to be easy. But my crystal ball has DLS by 3 being DLS beat Duncanville another highly athletic team by 3 along with the fact that they pounded Salesian with unreal defense.
