Just three weeks into the school year, Oakdale High School has suffered COVID’s wrath. It was announced Wednesday morning that Oakdale High School’s volleyball series against Sonora was canceled; then shortly after, word was received that Friday night’s football home game against Edison has also been canceled.

Per Joe Davidson of the Sac Bee via Twitter:

Elk Grove need a game
Lincoln-Stockton needs a game
Edison-Stockton needs a game
Franklin canceled at Vanden
River Valley canceled at River City
River City now playing Vanden

Does one positive case shut down an entire team, even if the other members are vaccinated and symptomless? It seems like the protocol is different in each district. If one positive case shuts down an entire team, despite vaccination/immunity/symptoms we will have a season full of forfeits/schedule changes and playoffs will not run smoothly. Plus we will have smoke fire issues until AT LEAST early October possibly until mid November. If the one case policy continues you can bet on game cancellations begin the "new normal" as COVID 19 will stay with us indefinitely, regardless of vaccinations, and games will be rescheduled and canceled for years to come.

From my understanding, it hits hard on the contact tracing if other players are deemed close contacts and are unvaccinated. Those players need to quarantine away from sports for a certain amount of time (I want to say its 5-7 days but I don't have the exact number). If a player is vaccinated and aren't showing symptons, they can continue to play

And now the bad AQI from the fires may force more games to be cancelled - stay tuned.

Shoot when I played (most/all posters) we never had a game cancelled or postponed for any reason. Only thing in my lifetime I can remember having some games shifted is a few cancelled after 9/11. Maybe for 1989 earthquake? Now it is a privilege to play a a scheduled game.

In fairness, when we played there wasn’t a global pandemic, half the state wasn’t on fire, and TVs were probably still black & white.
😆

but you had to walk to the game uphill.

It does suck and I’m starting to come to realization things as we know it may never be back to what it was. Cherish the games you get to play/attend. Really depressing times.

A global pandemic that hasn’t killed a single high schooler that didn’t already have a co-morbidity. 329 kids nationwide. Yet, we accept these ridiculous policies put on our youth.

Just saw a tweet from De La Salle that says their game today at St. Mary's-Stockton is a no-go due to smoke and that they are working on an alternate location.

The Monterey Trail games versus Cosumnes Oaks have been cancelled according to the COHS Twitter feed.

Monterey Trail is tentatively scheduled to play in Los Gatos today at 2 pm. Still awaiting confirmation that it will proceed.

Confirmed that Monterey Trail will play Los Gatos at Soquel High near Santa Cruz.

3 pm kickoff.

That's the lengths teams have to go to to get a game in. These are almost unfathomable times we are living in.
