St. Pats/St.Vincent travels to HMB to play the Cougars. They met in Jan but SPSV was missing a key ingredient?

Who wins?

Mesa Verde-Citrus Heights travels to Sacred Heart Prep.

Who moves on?

SPSV vs. HMB

Who was St. Pats missing? I think this game comes down to where HMB is at mentally. They are in the middle of a rough stretch and you have to wonder what their confidence level is. If they can figure it out, I still like their personnel to beat St. Pats.

Somebody on their roster was injured back in Jan.

I like St Pats winning this one. HMB has been a debacle lately. Winner will lose to Newman saturday night in Santa Rosa however.

HMB was up big but St Pats closed it to 2 in the fourth. Couldn't get over the hump.

HMB 49
SPSV 46

The Doctor is back! No allegations of malpractice now that twinkies and ding dongs are off the menu! Lol

I'll take HMB over CN - you going to be there?

And I'll take Liberty Ranch over Marin Catholic

NorCal D4 winner to lose in state title game by more or less than Moreau last year??

Was at the HMB game yesterday, refs made some very questionable call throughout the entire game, surprised HMB managed to win. The game against Cardinal Newman will be a real tough one for the cougars. If Jake Salinero can keep on making his threes like he did last night and as long as Nuno and DuFrane don't foul out (mainly the refs fault) I can see a possible upset, but we'll see come Saturday.

FROM HMB WEB SITE

The Cougars (25-4) played an excellent first half last night over the visiting Bruins of St. Patrick-St. Vincent's (22-10) in the opening round of NORCALS at Half Moon Bay HS. Jake Salinero drained 3 3-pointers in the first half ( he hit 4 for the game and led the Cougars in scoring with 14 points) and Austin Hilton scored points down low.

The Cougars continued their stellar play in the 3rd quarter out-scoring the Bruins 11-6 to take a commanding lead 42-26 heading into the final quarter.

That's when things got a bit interesting to say the least (LOL). The Bruins knocked down 5 3-pointers in the final frame to eventually close the gap to 2 points. with 5:23 to play in the game, Junior point guard Tommy Nuno fouled out and less than a minute later senior power forward Case DuFrane fouled out as well. From that point on the Bruins simply swarmed the Cougars knocking down multiple shots and forcing numerous turnovers. Despite the onslaught, some how, some way, the Cougars withstood the rally and held on for the win 49-46.

Senior reserve forward Grant harman had his best game of the season, scoring 8 points, grabbing rebounds and playing excellent defense. Reserve Sophomore point guard Andrew Saffold had to assume the ball-handling duties down the stretch and did so brilliantly, despite intense pressure and numerous double-teams by the Bruins.

The Cougars survive and advance to play the #2 seeded Cardinal Newman Cardinals of Santa Rosa this Saturday night @ 6pm @ Cardinal Newman.

I see Newman beating HMB. They've played a better schedule and are in a better league. Plus its a home game. The NBL was't great this year but Monty and Casa had good teams at least. Was there even a playoff team in HMB league? That is an awful league. Sorry I don't see any upset. Not this game. I also seeing Marin Catholic winning by double figures over Liberty Ranch. Besides Stallings they don't have much.

As for state title game Marantha and Chaminade play this weekend. The winner of that game will be the south rep for D4 IMO. Marantha has a 3 pt loss to Prestwood Christian from Texas. That team beat Folsom by 25 and Moreau by 15. 33-4 on season and some sort of Texas title I believe. They would be the 2nd best team in the Open in North and they are playing in D4. Ouch. Moreau got boat raced by 40+ I think last year. Could be the same for the north this year in D4.
