could anyone tell me how Stuart hall and vanden made norcals??? No offense and congratulations to those schools... but I was really really just wondering

March Madness ensues. The committee process will always warrant questions. However, Stuart Hall and Vanden have a solid chance to make a run in their divisions.

A few headscratchers in D3...Rio Americano = 19-10 record and rated 280 in MaxPreps. Also, how does Oakland Tech get into a D3 bracket as a D1 school? How does a 14-13;2-12 in conference play team get into Norcals(Valley Christian)? Lastly, Drake gets in (#305 MaxPreps) and Redwood sits? Redwood beat Drake twice.

My whole questioning is based on neither made the semifinals and no team in their sectional division playoffs made the open

Rio Americano a good team, they have size and some pretty good shooters from the arc, wouldn't be surprised if they upset some folks in Norcals .

First I will preface this by stating my WCAL bias. Valley Christian got into NorCals as CCS D2 champions winning their championship game by 23 points. They are the fourth best CCS D2 team (Serra, St Francis, Mitty CCS Open). Sure their league record is atrocious but I seriously doubt (m)any D3 teams would have winning or better league records in their league. They may very well lose in the first round (I doubt it) but they won't embarrass themselves or the league or the section in NorCals - they belong IMHO.

Obviously haven't seen Rio Americano play... Their record doesn't reflect their ability at all. Just look at the last 13 games they have played. An OT league loss to CB and a one point loss to Beyer on the road in the semis. Pretty good schedule too. Not sure how Oakland Tech goes from D1 to D3 though. Valley Christian gets in automatically after claiming the CCS title. Record doesn't matter if you do that. Dont know much about Drake/Redwood. Selection committee definitely makes some mistakes but I think they did a decent job this year.

They made it as an 'At-large bid' I believe. Making section semifinals automatically qualify you for state playoffs, but need more teams to fill the bracket. Vanden may be the scariest 16 seed I've ever seen, and I think putting them in as an at large bid was the right thing to do

Another head-scratcher is Clovis West. Lost in 2nd round of Central D1 bracket, equivalent round as DLS in their section, who is in... Split with San Joaquin Memorial, who is in the Open... Split with Central of Fresno, who is in... 26-4, ranked #25 by MaxPreps, and they're watching from home.

Agree with you on this one.. CW is a very good team coached by legend Vance Walberg... Definitely should've gotten in somewhere.

I agree. Biggest head scratcher out their. Went 26-4 and beat numerous playoff teams.# 2 ranked team Central section #19 State D1 and 25 overall. Have legendary coach Vance Wallberg who invented the dribble drive offense that many high schools now run . The way Central section sent teams north and south I'm sure they could have found a placement. If we are using competitive equity they should get in . SMH

Can someone also help me understand how Lowell got into the Norcals in Division 4 as a Division 1 school? Isn't that a reach? They have 2600 students compared to another team in their bracket that has 370 students. Is that really competitive equity??

While I kinda get what they’re aiming at here with this equity thing, they need to have limits as to how far a team can drop. Like... only one step down... That would be a starting point...

In some ways, though, this thing worked out pretty well... Many intriguing first-round matchups, for example. 16 has a good.shot vs. 1 in most divisions...

So toss the rock up and let ‘em PLAY!!

The 370 student size for a school gets thrown out if that particular school is a private school, the "parochials" only need a SELECT FEW ATHLETES to be brought in to compete at high levels, so for the most part the competitive equity that kiddman33 does work, but let's be clear, not all FORMULAS will always work, there's always goin 2b somebody that gets screwed!!!

Lowell wins the gpa award and college acceptance i'm sure. CW not getting in could be the biggest shaft in the history of calif sports.
