21-7 Riordan after 1. Verba Hamilton with another 95+ yard KO TD return. Luavasa did not start. Jr Josh Boone @ qb

40 yard TD pass from Character to McAfee. 28-7 Riordan. 10:22 in 2nd qtr

Sanders is playing sparingly. Greene and Boone running. Luavasa non throwin shoulder. From SHP game and exacerbated on late hit against MA

It would be fair to state that Riordan will be a distinct factor in the WCAL race this year. Maybe not in contention for a title at the end but a real problem for everyone they face, win or lose. That's healthy for the league and the school.

Boone 75 Yard TD pass to Daniel Norman. 35-7 Riordan 1:14 left in half

35-7 Riordan at the half! Crusaders withstand SM on 1st and goal on Riordan 5 with a Stanton Thomas int. Crusader line play controlling the game. Juniors Josh Boone and Xavier Character sharing snaps @ qb. Both have a 75 and 40 yard TD pass

Wow - its been a few years since Riordan has had this good of a season. - Now comes WCAL league play. Often it is between SHC and AR of whom with be in last place. This year, they might be able to land a 5th or 6th place (out of eight).

A well-played game by the Crusaders considering their starting qb, Jacky Luavasa, suited up but did not play the entire game. Jr qbs Josh Boone and Xavier Character looked very capable of "game-managing" the offense relying on the strength of the O-Line and punishing running of Sanders, Greene, soph Lasa Tofi and Jamarian Caston. QB Character had an absolute 40 yard strike to Cedric McAfee for a TD and Boone laid a perfect bubble screen pass to Daniel Norman who made some quick moves, broke some tackles and used his speed to split the secondary for a 75 yard TD. Crusaders showing a few more wrinkles on offense to have the many scouts in attendance take more notes. Execution was a lot better than the week before. Defense wa again stout against the run (don't think St. Mary's ran more than 50 yards the entire game) and the pass defense was good considering the talented skill players St. Mary's trotted out. Game was decided by the line play as the Riordan D must have had at least 6 sacks and another 6 tackles for a loss. Nice to see the offense establishing the run (using several rbs and out of different sets) as this will be critical in WCAL play.
I don't think any of the WCAL teams will kick to Verba Hamilton as he is 3 for 3 in KO returns for TDs this season. Lol! He is simply a hard target to get a good hit and has the speed to split the oncoming tacklers and separate from the pack. Amazing!
Now the real deal starts with the opener set for Mitty on their San Jose campus site next Saturday afternoon. Will be a great matchup of two spread offenses with hard hitting defenses.

Riordan line play on both sides of the ball totally dictated this outcome. Been a while since I've seen SMB get dominated like that on the line. Pretty boisterous and a little salty Riordsn fan group too. Definitely a much better club than the last few years. Don't know if that will reflect in won loss league record in the rugged WCAL. Hope it does though, would be nice to see.

Fair to say its been a long time since "many scouts in attendance" at a Riordan game. Are you talking about WCAL teams or college?

Jordan, didn't you pick Riordan to lose this game?
No . Check my picks. Just thought it would be a lot closer as SMs comeback win over BOD, their skill players, coaching, Sanders injury and home field would make itough.

Remc, many Crusader fans/ coaches who saw SM demolish Riordan 2 years ago remember the TD passes made when the game was already long decided. Yesterday, Riordan simply ran their standard running plays ((starting qb sat out game) once the game was decided and running clock started.
Good to see this series revived and good luck in League.

Lots of WCAL schools...one sportswriter said there may be some college scouts as SM has some D1 talent.

SHCs Peralta was there...After first 2 scores and Aidan's TD return he turned to a Riordan alum/friend and said he'd seen enough and left. Lol!
