Good coaching will always win out. The teams at the top have superior coaching. SERRA will get up to the 5 slot.Saint Ignatius 73 Archbishop Riordan 58 final. Trammell with 24 points / 20 in fourth quarter per Patrick Segurson tweet.
SI in a totally different class than Riordan as the game was never in doubt after 1st quarter. Good crowd at the Forum.
In other WCAL action:
-- Bells V BBall defeats SF 64-61
-- Monarchs beat Valley Christian 65-56
WCAL Standings:
1. Bellarmine 7-0
2. Saint Francis 6-1
3. Saint Ignatius 5-2
4. Archbishop Mitty 3-4 (after starting 0-4)
5. Archbishop Riordan 2-5
5. Sacred Heart Cathedral 2-5
5. Serra 2-5
8. Valley Christian 1-6
Really disappointed in the Crusaders' play in front a very good home crowd. They were thoroughly beat in every phase of the game while it appeared the 'Cats were in cruise control. There wasn't much to cheer about because every time Riordan appeared to be chipping at the SI lead, they would commit an unforced turnover, or miss covering a player in their press. There just seemed to be no sense of urgency and confidence in themselves. It doesn't help when you're playing against a good team and your offense only consists of 1 on 1 dribbling with everyone else just standing around. And when you do have a path to the basket, you cannot finish. At least Coach Buck's teams played hard throughout with their physical D and improved as the season progressed. Certainly missing from this team at this point in time. Time to go back to what's worked earlier and play with some purpose and pride.Saint Ignatius 73 Archbishop Riordan

Last year Riordan only won one league game and gave up 71 to SI in their first meeting. This year they already have two league wins and held the 1st place Bells to 64 losing at the buzzer.Really disappointed in the Crusaders' play in front a very good home crowd. I beg to differ. A coach’s game plan can keep a team in a game but better players will win a game. Bell,s have a D1 and possible D2guyin Wojo and stubblefield. St. Francis has a high D 1kid and a decent big who will play at the next level. If you look at all the rest of the WCAL schools, none have upper class collegiate talent like Bells and St. Francis. There are teams like SHC, Riordan and Mitty that have excellent Freshman or Sophmores that are projected to be D 1. They will have to wait to be on top and it’s not because of coaching. Chuck Rapp is a great coach but without his two bigs playing this year, they will be stuck in 4-6th place. Players win games. Good Coach’s put players in positions to possibly win the game.Good coaching will always win out. The teams at the top have superior coaching. SERRA will get up to the 5 slot.

Still no big men.You know if it would be one really good team if SH and Riordan combined their rosters.

Same with Bellarmine and St. Francis.
The only big men in the WCAL are Serra's Wilson and VC's Tovar. Unfortunately, Wilson has not shown much as he has been injured almost his entire HS career. Tovar dominates against lesser teams, but has not shown the same dominance in league play...The other noted "big men" are Stubblefield and Grigsby and to be honest - they are D2 players. They are too short to play a center/pf position in D1 and don't have the skills /speed to play a stretch guard or forward. Most of the teams (including Riordan) are pretty much the same height in terms of the players that are actually on the floor. VC is the exception.
Trammel is a very exciting HS player and he 's a winner. But he's only 5-8 (in the shade!). Most of his spectacular shots would end up in the stands in college. JC and/or D2 is his likely landing spot.
On the whole, the WCAL is made up of very good HS players, only 1-2% could be considered D1. Nothing wrong with that as that is pretty much the % of players that go D1.
A lot of spectacular 5'9", 5'10" guards. He makes S.I. better, but its different in college. He can play somewhere. Only have to look as far as Trevor Dumbar. Nothing wrong with being a quality high school ball player. He will find the right fit.Grigsby has D1 offers. He is very different from Stubblefield, as Grigsby is athletic. He will be a college forward. Trammel is D1. If the guard that started in front of him( that is the same size as him) started in front of him on the oakland soldiers is going to Virginia then he, Trammel will get something late.

Only other <6 ft guard from the WCAL to play D1 that I recall is Ray Kelly. TCU/UCSB.Dunbar went to the Pac 12 out of SI. He was good. A floor general. TRAMMEL not as good as a pg/passer. But way more athletic.
Trammel is definitely not D1. Not hating. Just my honest opinion.Grigsby has D1 offers. He is very different from Stubblefield, as Grigsby is athletic. He will be a college forward. Trammel is D1. Late signee who lasted one year. Agree, enjoyable to watch at high school level. Hear playing in phillipines, may be a nice fit.Dunbar went to the Pac 12 out of SI. He was good. A floor general. TRAMMEL not as good as a pg/passer. But way more athletic.
along with Ali Thomasahem ahem. Lyryan Russell, 5'11, USF.

Come on Man, speak truths. Freshmen Soule Boum(Oakland Tech) lead USF that night with 22 points, Frankie played well with 18. Soule leads the team in scoring for the season as well. A freshmen. We can add Frankie Ferrari to that list. He did play at Riordan for a a year. He also went back and forth from JC.He has played lights out in some games and others he has been so so. He is a lot better than I thought he would be. Much kudos to him for sticking to it and playing D1. I was at the Gonzaga game and he was only reason they were I that game.

I am speaking the truth! Souled was way less efficient. He was swatted and or turned it over multiple times going into the Lane that night. Frankie had 5 assists and 1 turnover and should have had more assists. Souls had a whopping 0 assists and 3 turnovers. As a PG you are supposed to take care of the basketball and distribute the ball as you see fit.Come on Man, speak truths. Soule had 3 turnovers...Frankie had 1
Everyone gets their shot blocked. Comments like that, people will question your knowledge of the sport.
Soule and Frankie were both 7 or 16 from the field! One finished with 18 the other with 22. Inefficient is your stance though? You can continue with Frankie was the only reason the team competed if you want. Basketball is a team game. Frankie rebounded and passed to himself and defended every player on the court. Ok
Can someone that has factual information tell me Ferrari's story on why he seemingly jumped from Burlingame to Riordan to Burglingame to USF to La Canada to USF? Does this guy have some sort of phobia that we don't know of? Is this the quentessential definition of a "millennial"?
You and I clearly watched two different games. Guarantee Frankie’s plus minus was a lot better than Soule.Soule had 3 turnovers...Frankie had 1
