2025 WCAL Projections

The state title team was put in the hall of fame last year. The team the year before was put into the hall of fame at the same time.

Yet the Riordan team with Fontana who would blow the shit out of that losing state title team is not in the hall of fame.

Does that answer your question? There is absolutely no way in hell that team should not be over looked. And trust me plenty of a Riordan guys from my era feel the damn same and I didn’t even go to the damn school.
I get it, but are you referring to the Riordan Hall of Fame? If so, I agree that the Fontana-led team should be added. I remember watching that game and Manigo couldn't buy a bucket that night - tough. If they had the 6'9" center that transferred to Mission mid-season, they would have matched up better with Mater Dei's height, but Fontana, Buckner and Crump more than held their own. Jamie Edwards also had a great game.

All this constant year after year venom and hatred toward the Riordan basketball team, coaches, players and board supporters is fueled by a former Sacred Heart alumni player fighting for justice over a perceived slight on behalf of Riordan players who last played a quarter century ago?
How does that explain your excoriation of Coach Mellis for taking his team to Hawaii instead of another more challenging tournament? As a former WCAL player you of all people should know the value of the life experience gained through the Hawaii trip.
1) When have I ever hated against a player. Let’s start with that, that’s BS.

2) The WCAL has had many teams play in nor cal and win the chip. I am a WCAL guy all the way period. I ain’t a hater like some who literally root against WCAL teams if they get deep. However when it comes to that level of basketball there are kids and teams that can be so much better. Did you see she last play last year against Salesian out of a timeout of all things at CCC. That’s not hate, that’s reality. So yes I will question coaching in such a reality moment.

3) Salesian doesn’t have a bunch of D1 players. So yes I get the experience part, but when your cross bay team who you will most likely play again in the nor cal final once again uses an experience and when your a team that will dominate your league hands down, well playing against adversity is huge. That’s why I have Riordan a kudos as well as De La Salle.

Ask every kid that has won state titles. And since we are speaking of the WCAL will tell you, it’s bragging rights. And it’s something you get to speak on for life. There is one poster on here whose son was two games from Arco. Every kid on that team at Sacramento High was in tears. That’s fact. It’s a special thing. And as we know So Cal is loaded. And the teams in the open don’t play in cupcake leagues. My school is horrible, you think a 49 point blowout is adversity preparation. You need to be prepared. Mayne I am wrong. But my schools girls dominated the nation for a few years and on paper weren’t even close. But Coach Brian accepted all challenges. And Sue does the same. Kind of like De La Salle has done with football.

Thank you for the acknowledgment unlike clowns on here who never attended a WCAL school. The Fontana team was unreal when one looks at the big picture. That team also had Chris Krol and dude from England. I can’t believe his name slips my mind. In all honesty it’s like some of the posters are dying for a title hit on the under make excuses for losses. Win or go home. I was with Dorian and the fellas a few years back in Texas. His son needed up a baller but not sure how far he went.

You guys got great memories! I do know it was Jamie Edwards who was from England. Reggie Johnson was the 6-9 player. He started his HS career at Serra. Jaha Wilson was a freshman that was brought up for the playoffs. Wish he played more in the title game. He was one freshman I thought would contribute on the big stage. Freshman just weren't considered. I think Jason Kidd changed that, at least in the Bay Area. He played like a senior. Best HS player I've ever seen in addition to Gary Payton and Terrence Mullins back in the day.
