Week 8 Scores Thread

Took a flier on Bishop O'Dowd this week hoping their tough non-league would set up well for league play, but Pirates were too much tonight
Same reason I took El Cerrito over Kennedy. Hoping El Cerrito's tough pre-season schedule help them pull this one out. Kennedy has played the softest pre-season schedule in NorCal. Not blaming this on the new coach but they've played teams with a combined 5-32 win/lose record. I expect the Gauchos to win by two scores.

Capital Christian 31 Sac High 8

Game called with 5 min left in the 4th after a Capital pick 6. Sac High players/coaches had multiple unsportsmanlike and personal foul penalties in second half and had a player ejected before coach pulled his players off the field. Ugly game.

That game changed in a hurry.

On another note, have more games ended early this year due to lack of healthy bodies and/or unsportsmanlike conduct? Seems like we have a few every week

I heard this game just exploded? Sac High coaches just got way out of hand and the players also out of control.....Couple of players went down with serious injury....No Place for this in high school sports

I was wondering if you were waiting to post the game score until Palma was able to come back before half. Carmel put a good little scare in the first half but the depth of Palma just hurt them. I think Carmel dressed 26. If not less. Great win by the chieftains.
Palma has some BEEF on that O-line! And I think Kai Lee ran for about 200 yards in the 2nd half, all behind the line of scrimmage while avoiding Palma’s rush! Serious scrambling...

Carmel had a chance to really grab the momentum near the end of the first half when they missed out on a fumble recovery on Palma’s 20 yard line. If they had made that play and scored the 2nd half may have been more interesting, but it was a matter of time before Palma wore them down with that run game. Glad Jon Jon Berring came back after being injured. That kid can fly!

Like others have said, Carmel has a puncher’s chance against the Gabilan heavyweights, but with a lack of size and depth they have to play close to mistake free football, and these are HS kids and coaches, so that rarely happens. Their D has improved a bit though, in terms of better tackling then they displayed in preseason.

Great post. Totally agree.

When we played them it got chippy as well. Longest game I have ever seen cause of game delays and questioning every call.

Salinas Cowboys may be in for a tough game. That Carmel QB and skill players will be able to move the ball. Lee was able to avoid pass rush and that gave time for WRs to get open and he has the arm and accuracy to get the ball anywhere on the field. Having a good RB as a threat in Mornhinweg and the pass isgoing to give the Salinas defense some trouble. Pad's will have trouble with the Salinas pass attack and will need to make adjustments as far as they had everyone up to stop the Palma rushing attack until the Palma QB hit some passes (give soph Luke Rossi some time and he has the arm to be one of the top QBs in the section - that kid has a live arm but will probably play D1 baseball). I think the Salinas v Carmel game could be a track race and might hinge on turnovers. Salinas defense up front hasn't been that impressive and Carmel can either run it or throw it and have 3rd and long and convert. Will be a fun game to watch. Carmel does get warn out but they will be interesting during playoff time which I think they will make.

Glad Jon Jon is okay as well. He seems to have a cramping problem. Seems he goes out every game for a while, but this may have been different. It hurt the Palma defense against Mitty and also a while against Salinas. He will be a very good college baseball player but it he had more size he would have options to play football. That kid can run and for his size is really physical.

SRV beats CVC 23-16.

CVC now 0-2 in the EBAL Mountain, and still has to play MV Foothill & DLS.
Was very surprised by the CV score. I really think this CVC team is a little mismanaged on the offensive side of the ball in my opinion. They look like they have the athletes and playmakers to score more if they opened up the offense a little. Their QB is definitely talented and should be throwing the ball more but they stick with that run defense. SRV is a good team, but this was another surprise.

I met one of the parents of one of BoD team at a barbecue this last weekend and it was clear based on what they said they are a little down this season. I just thought SL was going to be more disciplined on defense but it was a tough one to pick. I thought I took SL a little too high and thought it would be closer. This was a tough pickem week.

I had to dig deep to figure that result out. The El Cerrito/St. Pat's game took me down a rabbit hole that eventually revealed the Gaucho's were the better team. In regards to the Middletown/St. Helena game the Middletown coach has owned the St. Helena's veer for years. Over the years St. Helena has developed a pattern of scoring tons of points against it's opponents but not on Middletown. A few other posters picked that up as well.

Like Pitt they don’t seem to get the most out of the Talent they attract.
