Just saw on the news that Weston Ranch Basketball team was caught scrimmaging and coaches with no masks on. Player and family gets covid and in the hospital. Manteca Unified suspends all conditioning and matter under investigation. Very sad to hear this. We all need to be careful and take Covid serious. This is not good.

It’s as an aau team and they very publicly have already gone out of state and played so I’m sure the district and school administration is completely aware.
Vukovich: sorry but you’re wrong. The incident in question took place at a TEAM practice on SCHOOL grounds in their own gym. No masks,
no care for protocols = LOSS of job. Unfortunate, but these are the times we live in and if a coach continues to run around thinking they are above the rules, that will come back to bite ya! And we wonder why we are back in purple and why there won’t be a HS season...smh!

but the teams that are playing out of state arent they playing under aau titles? yes it may be only players at the school but i think they still are using the aau
Yes they are playing under the “AAU umbrella” disguise (like many other school teams right now). But while those decisions to go play as an Aau team all over the state and out of state are probably frowned upon by many, its not against any rules. And that’s NOT what Westin ranch coaches and team is being punished for.
they are being punished for being caught in a separate instance of going against Covid protocols while performing as a school team on their own school campus at an official team/school event that was supposed to be only conditioning and drill work. They were all out playing full court, no masks, no Covid rules being followed, on and on and on. Didnt follow any district rules while on campus. Plain and simple.

I just got some info on this situation. No protocol followed and this was a coordinated and scheduled event. This was conducted by Weston Ranch coaches. There is 5 confirmed with covid. It's hard to believe that the school or athletic director was not aware of this. This was on school grounds. Due to this situation, all MUSD sports are halted . Sad to see coaches have no care for players and families well being by allowing kids to participate. I hear the parent has hired an attorney. This is not good for high school athletics at this time. I'm sure someone will be held accountable for this selfishbehavior. I predict job losses at the school. Wish the best for all who have been impacted by this situation..
People cant make those sacrifices so everyone has to live with the consequences. Even the governor and those medical professionals cant even make those sacrifices under rules they implemented and want the general public to follow. Jan 20 and vaccines cant come fast enough to save us from our unwilling selves.

As far as the parent hiring an attorney, must have been an already disgruntled parent to go as far as send a video of the incident and then want to hire a lawyer. The parent saw an opportunity to jump on the coach, administration, and or school and this was the chance. Granted the school and coach didn’t do themselves any favors under the current environment we are ALL living in, as COVID is not to be played with!!!

That is tough. Chris was a great leader who lead a team that needed his exact talents as a coach. WR became a go to school in the valley. Keep grinding. Bounce back SZN

High school coaches, just like teachers, which this coach is, are expected to not only instruct, but keep their charges safe by following the rules. All of us expect anyone working with children, teenagers included, to follow all safety precautions. The trust that teachers, coaches, youth leaders, religious mentors and others have regarding our children is more important then anything else. Kudos to the coach for owning his mistake, but these instances are just part of the reason why we have not made as much progress in handling the virus as we should have and are putting the entire high school athletic seasons in jeopardy in California.
