Are they generally accurate? It seems they have some incorrect info on who should be in the playoffs at this point. (PVL). League standings. Are they actually tied in with CIF?

ST, Maxpreps is a good resource but totally reliant on coaches or official scorer input for stats and win loss info. They do a check to verify the info submitted from both teams correlates to minimize incorrect info but it is only as accurate as the submitted info. You will see some team's stats are not entered and even some scores are not submitted. If there are teams that do not report the playoff projections will be way off. Mazpreps is also national so they don't always have up to date info on the playoff seeding systems that each section employs.
I don't believe they are tied to CIF officially but I will stand corrected if anyone has more info on that.

Excellent resource, but their content can be off base. They've had obvious errors in projecting the regional bowls too.

Their website says they're run by CBS Interactive, so I'm sure they're not affiliated with the CIF.

They do tend to have a lot of information that needs correcting. I've sent them so many I feel like I should charge them a consultation fee. Sometimes, they'll refer to a conference game as a non-conference game or put the "wrong" Valley Christian on a teams schedule. At least they do correct their errors.

That's on the coach that submits the schedule at the start of the year. Like others have said, Maxpreps is reliant upon input. Garbage in/garbage out. If the coach (or scorekeeper I guess) is careless, or worse, a moron, the info will be incorrect.

It's not perfect but it's a cool service. If you keep score for baseball you can download all your opponents' rosters directly into GameChanger, and also upload your stats from there. Saves a lot of time. And yes, of course, garbage in, garbage out. But HS stats will always be sketch no matter how they are done.

Its freaking genius. Acquired by CBS Corp in 2007 and headquartered in Cameron Park. I don't think the amount was disclosed but I'm guessing founder Andy Beal is sitting pretty. I've found it to be a great source of info.

I think it's great for following teams/rosters/schedules from various sports. Certainly has it's pluses and minuses. Unfortunately the player stats are usually off as it often doesn't contain stats for every single game. Sad thing is, lots of reporters cite stats from it not researching deeply enough to find that out.

Also, I've seen lots of rogue games included in the schedules that weren't actually played.

Its is up to the coaches to provide the player stats and there are some teams in the WCAL that don't submit player info. Now they have a career player stats added that gives you info on players throughout their whole career.

Thanks. Your input makes sense. I have found it very interesting and useful. I guess playoff predictions are just that. Predictions. Overall, I enjoy the service.

I have found Maxpreps to be very informative. I do understand that it can be off sometimes, but generally I get good info from it. I enjoy the live scoring updates for games that I cannot attend due to my kids.

Overall pretty good, but plenty of errors every week and some sloppy and lazy work at times. When they had Serra beating DLS as a final a few years ago they took a lot of flack. As pointed out there have also been some mystery games which never occurred listed in there.

Much like Calpreps it's good for some historical data, rosters etc, but I would never quote its rankings.

Keep in mind that the playoff predictions are based on some formula they created. When it comes to actual seedings, it is reviewed by committee of humans(or what we would like to believe are humans) much like BCS in college. MaxPreps gives you a general idea and prob not too far off. As others have said it is reliant on info and scores inputted by coaches. If a coach list a game a non-conference, nobody from MaxPrep will fix on their own. Overall not a bad source of info.

Prep2Prep.com is another decent site for info

Both Maxpreps and Preg2Prep's CCS playoff predictions pale in comparison to PALBooster's. Maybe you could sweet talk him or just bribe him with beer and he would put together a uber spreadsheet on the PVL!

There are definite data quality issues -- incorrect games listed, partial stats (20 games played, only 10 have stats), no rosters -- it's still a great resource and fun to poke around, would be nice if more schools would fully utilize it and load their data!

It seems to be more accepted, and used correctly, by baseball coaches than football.
