SRV v Acalanes
Pinewood v. Mitty
McClatchy v. Folsom
Clovis v Clovis West

All 1 v 2 matchups. (Ed note. McClatchy is a 2 masquerading as a 3)

Could be the 8 team NorCal Open

Can someone who has been in the room where it happens explain why they'd want a six team open with the top seeds getting byes, instead of taking all the Sectional finalists and runnerups and making it an 8 team bracket. I'm not saying it won't happen. Just want to understand the thinking.

Because they only have 25 bids to NorCal, and in the past they've had 12 or more D6 entries, and so gave D6 four NorCal berths.

Backing up ...

To get the Open passed after it was voted down the first year, it was necessary to make sure there were enough votes in year two. D6 is the largest division in number of votes, so obviously it was critical to get their support. Thus the four bids.

This year, there were only eight D6 girls teams interested in participating, and one forfeited. (Travel may be the issue -- I don't know.) There were 12 boys teams, though, so D6 schools will never vote to going down to two berths.

It doesn't seem likely that they would have different criteria for boys and girls, but it does seem foolish that Ferndale advanced to NorCals on the girls side without playing a game.

Why NorCals won't go to play-in rounds and hand out more bids is a mystery to me ...

But I think all of these games will be pretty competitive.

First time that the NCS Open Winner will be a public school and will mark the fifth different winner in as many years.

San Ramon Valley is making its fourth straight appearance in the finals

I see BOD is up to 4 in the NCS MP rankings today passing CN, Piedmont and Salesian (Salesian falls all the way down to FOURTEEN in the MP rankings).

Why do i get the nagging shi**y feeling that BOD is going to get seeded ABOVE the NCS OPEN teams in the Norcals?

Salesian got effing hosed and BOD gamed the MP system by not playing all their games and thus had their rankings affected negatively at the end. I certainly hope the committee uses common sense and places the D1 winner behind all the OPEN teams in Norcals.

That's an interesting question. NCS will submit its list with the Open teams as the top six, but then NorCals can do whatever they want.
