KCRA has reported that law enforcement is conducting a criminal investigation into an alleged hazing/sexual assault at Oak Ridge. https://www.kcra.com/article/oak-ridge-high-school-alleged-misconduct-student-athletes/44756578. From what I’m hearing, this occurred at summer camp in South Lake Tahoe and involved some players holding down another player, removing his pants, and penetrating him with a broom handle. If true, this is just infuriating. I feel for those who many have witnessed it but lacked the courage to step forward and stop it. I feel for the coaching staff and players who are victimized by the challenge that this has brought upon them. And my heart breaks for the parents and the young man who was victimized. So sad and so maddening on so many levels.

And it’s everyone of these stupid incidents you read about they all do the same thing!…. What is the point of all this and how do these kids even think it’s a good idea and they won’t get punished for doing something so disgusting and stupid???…..

In today’s SacBee, Joe Davidson reported that several players have been suspended or expelled from school as a result.
Here is what I know.
Isolated incident in Lake Tahoe at Hard Rock Hotel during camp involving upper class and a JV player.
4 kids overall
1 kid expelled from school /off team
2 kids suspended from school and off team
1 kid suspended 5 games
Parents are pressing charges. (Sexual assault) This is really ugly.
It’s isolated and not some widespread hazing cultural but it will impact many.
We all grew to hazing to some degree but never this.
OR has no QB. I think they will be ok but not like last year. You can’t win big games without a decent QB today.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the unfortunate incident involving the football players at Oak Ridge. My heart goes out to that young man and his family during this incredibly challenging time. No one should have to endure such a traumatic and embarrassing experience. I want to offer my heartfelt sympathy.
Imagine being that kid and coming back to campus with everyone knowing what happened to you. He may have to leave as well just to have a chance to feel some sense of normalcy.
Yes. But he had zero reps from last year and same with backup to him so doesn’t matter. He wasn’t that good anyway.
They literally have nobody with experience. Taylor had one job in the off season. Get a QB. Nope.

I don’t know how a HC survives with this conduct from players. These participants deserve jail time and their share of a Louisville Slugger with no lube in their rectums. Wishing a quick heal to the victim and his family.
Something going on at Rocklin as well involving a girl. The girl apparently is the daughter of the HFBC at a different HS in the area.
Correct. Filming sex but I believe it was consensual. Pretty sure it’s QB. Thought this one already cleared the air though. It was a couple months back.
Always a red flag for me when it’s the administration and school district investigating. Bring in the police immediately!
I don’t know how a HC doesn’t survive unless it is discovered he encouraged, incited, and/or witnessed the behavior w/o stopping or reporting it.
Talk about looking in the wrong direction. Aside from the delinquents themselves, the parents are where your next focus should be.
The HC (or any assistant) cannot be held responsible for the actions of 35+ individual players unless it is proven that the coach encouraged, condoned, or otherwise was involved in the behavior. Period.
I’m not defending any kid that does this, as I’ve long been in favor of harsher consequences for this type of behavior, but it does happen quite a bit these days.
As long as all involved are minors, law enforcement really isn’t able to do much about it nor are lawmakers seemingly interested in correcting the problem. Quite sad.
Perhaps the placer DA could offer a more accurate description, and the SacBee could do a follow-up to the second story update. I can offer a few details if you didnt already know or are trying to mislead;

This was not football related, but when the Football coaching staff was made aware of a picture being disseminated, it was there swift action as mandatory reporters that informed the police department and school district.
Source I have claims they both sent the pic in question out. DA dropped the case. This one is done
Yes, this was a case of there being two sides to the story and one of them isn't the entire truth.
I remember pay phones, malls and bikes in the yards to let you know where your friends were at. Some might find comfort in those simpler times. Hard to be a teen today in some ways. Things you put out there, can destroy reputations and linger.

According to the DA both took a photo and shared it. He took a video but they weren't able to discern who was in the video and what was occurring because they were under a blanket. Also they said it was beyond their capability to figure out if it was distributed.

Larry, I don't mean to stir anything up but what is, or has, been shared about the status of the HC? I have no idea if he was close by or not (meaning were they under his supervision) but has there been anything from the school beyond the kids involved? This is an awful situation. I feel for all the kids involved, from the ones who participated and thought this was ok to the one who was victimized. Everyone loses, but hopefully, the kids that remain on the team know 100% and in a big reality way, that behavior like that is never acceptable (as I am sure all of them already knew that) and would never have got themselves into the situation the others did.
I honestly don’t think anything punitive is coming down to the HC. From my intel, this was a isolated incident that is not some widespread hazing cultural at OR football. Terrible indeed. But from what I know I think there will be no more casualties.
Good. Sometimes we can be too quick to extend blame beyond those directly involved. OR has always been a really good program so my first reaction was that it was just a small group of kids who got caught up in a very regretful situation.

There are several schools that specialize in dealing with students with behavioral problems. Most school districts have a school that specialize in dealing with these kinds of students.
When I was HS if you were kicked out of school you went to the districts continuation school. It's still pretty much the same, but there are more options.
School districts like San Juan have LaVista, and Twin Rivers has Leo Palmitor. These districts have there own behavioral school because of the large portion of disadvantage students they serve.
Folsom, Roseville, Rocklin, Elk Grove, and Natomas to name a few typically contract with private schools that specialize in dealing with students with behavioral problems or students with special needs that are too much for the district to handle.
Schools like NorCal Prep, Point Quest, Sierra School, Guiding Hands, Placer Learning Center, and Capital Academy to name a few.
These schools specialize in a variety of services and only accept certain behavioral problems. Some, like the one I work at deal with more severe issues (expulsion, sexual crimes, assault and battery, gangs, selling drugs, fights involving weapons, etc.). While others deal with more minor issues (truancy, minor fights, drug addiction, teen pregnancy, etc). Most of these schools are locked facilities and have staff that are trained in restraint techniques.
There is a lot of support at these schools so most students who are successful transition back to their home school/district, or to a school that is less restrictive.
If they are kicked out of these schools they will likely find themselves in the juvenile court system and will attend a probation school like Eleanor Hickey, where they have multiple probation officers onsite.
Homeschooling your child is an option as well.

Taylor has been a HC since 2002 at 4 different programs. To my knowledge there’s never been any hint of this at any of his previous stops. I find it hard to believe he woke up one day recently and decided to implement hazing into his program.
