First game features my Campolindo Cougars vs. the Downey Knights of Modesto..

Campo is 8-2 and Downey is 4-8 (2 and 1 with second-leading scorer Jayden Coelho)..

I only have a couple names, no printed programs…. Other then the Cougs of course…. Early on, it’s 6-5 Downey.

Gavin Rendle gets the Cougs a lead, but it’s short-lived…. now Landon Fly scores off a nice cut, 9-8 Cougs.

4:10 left in the 1st, Knights ball.

After an early scoring barrage both ways, steals and other empty possessions rule the day.

Knights #1 fouled, FT’s…. splits ‘em. tied at 9, 2:43 left 1st, Downey time out.

Tim Smith with a GREAT old-school up-and-under for 2…. 28-14. and Downey turns it over.

Downey #21 returns the favor…. 28-16.

Cougs hold for 1…. but they lose it, Mansour fouls. 5.6 left. LOng Downey try bounces out. 28-16 at the half.

Dylan “Diggy” Mansour leads the way for the Cougs with 15, and has done a great job on the defensive end, but has 2 fouls.

Downey #1 hits a 3. 35-19.

Smith with a putback…. 37-19, Downey calls time out.

Cougs get a stop…. Luke Benardi nails a 3! 40-19, Cougs with another stop, Rendle nails a 3! 43-19. IMpressive showing thus far.

Downey #2 hits a corner 3…. and they get a stop. 44-24. 44-26 after #21 scores.

Mansour slices thru the D for a layup…. 46-26. 1:07 left 3rd.

and that’s the quarter.

After a wild, turnover-filled but nonproductive first 52 seconds, Mansour fouled, hits 1 of 2.

Cougs get it bac and Smith scores…. 49-29.

Now Rendle nails a corner 3…. 52-29.

and the Cougs get it back, and Rendle nails another bomb! 55-29.

4:40 left.

#5 of Downey fouled on a shot, FT’s split, 55-30.

Downey scores, missed the player…. Peyton Beld fouled, hits 1 of 2 for the Cougs. 56-32.

As I said before, no print programs, so I can’t get to players’ names quickly…. So I’ll be down to occasional updates from now on…. I shoulda printed out the rosters at home.

Next game is Edison of Stockton vs Clovis East. Winner plays Campo tomorrow at 8:30, lo… er, non-winner plays Downey earlier.

Clovis East looks to be a heavy favorite. They are 9-3, while Edison is 1-3.

Clovis East quickly builds a 12-4 lead. 3 minutes left 1st. Neither coach seems overly happy with their team’s play.

18-13 Clovis East after 1 quarter…. Despite the score in CE’s favor, I think Edison’s scrappy play has CE a little out of sorts.

As soon as I say that, CE’s pressure causes a ton of Edison turnovers…. Now it’s 27-13 Clovis East. 6:06 left in the half.
