Maile Williams Commits to Chicago State

I really like Hawaii Pacific. Finished 29-1 ranked 3rd in last D2 poll. I lived in the same building where the school was.
Kid named Maile goes to HPU and get to play in Hawaii!!!!
Pulling for her .....as I have ....for years.

how does that work? were you a student? or is the school just in an apartment?

Having played in same conference as Chi State way back when Craig Hodges was the coach I don’t think you would mistake the area in the South Side of Chicago with the Magnificent Mile.

I lived in the Executive Center.... Bishop and Hotel Street...
I actually worked at UH Manoa managed the the college of business
computer center. Was a UH Manoa Grad Student at the time...HPU used to be at the bottom few floors of the Executive Center building...now they moved down the street...3 blocks away at the Aloha Towers....
Anyway I like the idea of kid named Maile playing for HPU...what could go wrong?:)

what list of great d2 schools are your referring to? East Bay, chico, Stanislaus? I would much rather live in Chicago than turlock or chico any day. She cant get her hair done in Chico!!!

I agree. Chi Town isn't just a wild wild west shoot em up city. It's pretty nice from what I hear. If D1 was the goal then they should be proud of the accomplishment. You can always reevaluate later but you never know what you can do or what impact you might have unless you try. Go Maile!!

Every single major city in America is the wild wild west in some parts and beautiful in others. And it is D1. Mission accomplished

So please...enlighten us. What is better?

Is it the scholarship? We all know D1 means full scholarship, but a D2 player can be on a full ride as well, or walk away with little to no debt after college. D2s can put players on a full ride, if the coach so chooses. A fully funded D2 has 10 full cost of attendance scholarships to work with.

Is it the gear? Low level D1s don't have sponsorship deals. Sure, every sport may wear the same brand, but that doesn't mean a deal that provides near unlimited gear. They're getting a purchasing discount on their gear, which is the same as a D2. Don't believe it? A quick look at Chicago State's athletic site shows the women's team players wearing Jordan brand uniforms. The men are wearing Nike. You think the guys didn't want Jordan unis in Chicago of all places?

Maybe it's the facilities? Chicago State does have a nice, looking arena that holds 7000 people, and to be fair, Western Washington's facility only holds a shade over 2500. So maybe you have something there. But really...it's the same length court, with similar baskets and a similar ball.

So...save for the "I went D1" bit...what is the difference?

All facts!

Girlsballfan I hear you. You aren’t the first one I’ve seen victimized by the so called “Hall of Famers” on this message board. You are right, some of these keyboard warriors have too much time on their hands and don’t have the balls to talk to your face the way they do on this site. I am tired of the snide comments and half assed bully tactics by aspiring High school girls basketball “experts”. Keep hiding behind your stupid screen names cowards. The disrespect has gone on too long.

I am in no way talking about two men I respect greatly “ClayK” and “Streakone”.

No one is bullying anyone. It's called a dialogue and sometimes dialogues get heated. But as adults we must be aware that these young student athletes do see what is posted about them. Being that I do care about these student athletes I'm always gonna be objective on their behalf. We as adults should be careful what we post about these student athletes because they are not mature enough process things the way an adult would. There is a way to present a case without some kid reading and feeling like some person is trying to tear them down. Someone who apparently wouldn't say it to the athletes face or the parents face. When it comes to protecting these kids emotions I'm unapologetic about that because that's what it's all about. You don't have to be a coach or even want to be a coach to respect and care about the kids. Because that is what this is about right? The kids.

have a seat on the couch right here. if anyone allows anyone on the internet to offend them they are gonna have it rough in life. just log off for your own sanity and safety of others.

GBBall4L I’m not singling you out. This has been my general frustration for years. Some people are just here to argue and demean people. I’ve seen it go on for years. If the forums rules don’t apply I’m happy to let some individuals know how I really feel. I’m tired of seeing people leave because of a handful of assholes.

Not sure what is going on here with comments about bullying and demeaning and @girlsballfan obviously deleting their comment. I questioned if the young lady has decommitted or if the new coach had not accepted her commitment BECAUSE SHE DELETED HER COMMITMENT POST ON HER IG. That’s not talking shit/bullying or demeaning in any way. It was asking for clarification. Yes I’ve been here a long time, yes I have a large network of sports relationships. I’m not going to apologize for asking 1 question based on a factual observation.

I can definitely respect that.

Best wishes to her basketball career. Very bright, nice demeanored, and good basketball player. Quite interesting and odd though. Highly touted recruit by her father and made All-City teams in the Sacramento Bee newspaper over the past several years. But whoever is "guiding her," the results or progression has not been what was expected. Chicago State is a D1 school with scholarships. To leave that for....

Central Wyoming College, frequently abbreviated CWC is a public community college located in Riverton, Wyoming that offers 2-year associates degrees.

Last season's roster did NOT include any players from California.

Maile spent her senior and junior year high school seasons at Capital Christian (CC). CC went 14-15 overall, 6-6 league, last season. Lost in the 1st round of the SJS section playoffs to Highlands, 52-41.

In her junior year, Capital Christian went 15-13 overall, 6-6 league. Lost in the 1st round of the SJS section playoffs to El Dorado, 54-43.

Maile spent her sophomore year at Elk Grove, under coach Larry Price. Elk Grove went 17-11 overall, but lost in the 1st round of the SJS section playoffs to Granite Bay, 62-45.

Maile spent her freshman year at Inderkum (Sacramento). Inderkum went 9-17 overall, and did not qualify for SJS section playoffs.
But the following season, Inderkum went 16-11 overall, 10-2 league, without her. Lost to Vanden in OT in 1st round of SJS sections.

We never really got to evaluate how good Maile would (or could) be if she was on a top 10 Sacramento area team or if she stayed at the same high school all four years. I hope this transfer works out. Wyoming is a lot different than living in California.

We get it. You don't like her Dad.

A cautionary tale, in some ways. Spending time and energy using social media to promote a young player can lead to disappointment and frustration in the long run, as it's possible the expectations engendered by relentless promotion can wind up making a fine basketball career from a good player seem like a disappointment.

Good luck to Maile ...

Anyone heard from the guy in the thread from 2018? The one who had her gassed up as a soph? I would like to hear his take on what happened between South Carolina-Chicago St-Central Wyoming.

I'm sad to say that whether the intent is to get back at the Dad or not that is what it sounds like to me also. So what maybe the Dad was a loud AAU dad or loud coach but the daughter isn't a part of that. All you can hope that the daughter kicks any bad habits they inherit from the parents as they mature and that usually happens. But yeah it just seems like @cptmycpa is willing to do whatever to drive the point home to the Dad. It's unfortunate for the daughter. But I'm on the outside looking in but that's my perception. Perception is often reality.

I agree..I don't understand why people keep attacking the kid, because the dad was hard to like. We wish Maile success in the coming years.
