Arrived a few minutes ago, in time to see PG finish off Benicia by some 8 or so...

Time now for Monterey Trail and its frshman phenom Varick Lewis take on Pleasant Valley.

FWIW, Pleasant Valley is rated a little bit higher by MaxPreps, 200 to 286.

PV is 12-7, MT is 11-7.

Lewis took an accidental elbow to the ear on the very first play and came off the floor, but he’s at the table now after a few minutes recovery time... PV is up 10-3.

Finally a dead ball, and Lewis goes back in with the score 16-5. Let’s see what happens...

Lewis scores 4 right off the bat, game has changed already. Now 16-11.

And that’s the score at the end of the quarter... PV 16-11.

Lewis is impressive, a shifty, quick 6’1” or so... So far, he has shown little in the way of willing passing, tho... Still way early, tho.

3 for MT... corner shot off a Lewis pass... he *does* pass the ball after all... In all, so far he’s quite impressive, one to keep an eye on for sure.

#23 for PV throws one down on a break... Lewis does the same, well a layup... and then a MT 3ball... 26-18.

MT starts the half on a bit of a roll... 36-28.

But PV answers with a nice run to take the lead 41-40 after three quarters.

Lewis threatening to take this thang over... 3 buckets in a row, then a nifty pass for a corner 3... 49-46 MT. 5:30 left in the game.

Sweet 360 moves by Lewis, but he gets swatted anderneath the rim... Those great moves don’t work *all* the time...

Strangely, instead of using team colors to announce, the refs are saying the name of the team... ie. “Time out Monterey Trails, coach” instead of “Time out, Black” or whatever...

New sac-juaquin rule, perhaps?

MT ran isolation to Lewis... He made a great pass for a corner 3, but it was missed, and the shooter tried to make amends but fouled... FT missed by PV, ball out of bounds to PV. #21 for shoots a 3... rattles in, out... back in. PV leads 57-56... MT ball, time out... 26.3 seconds left in this great ballgame...

PV play breaks down, but they scramble and get off a wild shot... no good, PV rebound, fouled... 58-56 PV, first FT good... with 7.3 secs left and another FT.

PV guy misses a bunny that woulda taken the lead... If they lose by one, that poor kid is gonna go home and kick his dawg...

Still 62-61, 1:13 left. MT has the rock. The turn it ovr... PV takes the lead on a short J...

But Lewis nails yet another long 3! 65-63, 21 secs left...

PV takes it in, but muffs the pass! MT ball, 14 seconds left... MT at the line to try and seal it, now 12.2 left.... Missed the FT, but PV hurries and MT knocks it loose... PV loses it out of bound. Another MT try at the line, missed front end! But PV fails to get a desperation 3off in time... 65-63 final, MT gets the win.

Now we have Oak Ridge v. College Park.

OR is 12-6, CP 8-8.

OR is ranked #157 in CA by Maxpreps, CP at 251.

I’ve seen CP play this year, watching my fabulous Campo Cougars shut them down... OR, haven’t seen since this event last year.

Oak Ridge scores in the final seconds of the half to lead 35-33 at the break.

Neither team can get any sort of foothold on this one... OR just got what I think was the first 5-point lead of the game, but that lasted about 10 seconds. 50-47 OR, 1:39 left 3rd.

Next, we have Sacramento’s Dragons vs. Elk Grove’s Thundering Herd.

Elk Grove is 15-4 while Sac is just 9-7, but Sac has played their usual man-sized schedule while EG has.... well, not.

EG is ranked slightly higher by MaxPreps at #124 vs #148.

18-17 Sac after 1...

Took a look at EG’s roster... Quite young... A 6’8” soph who starts, and also their leading scorer, a guard... also a soph.

Scoring skidded to a halt for a few minutes there, but EG was the next one to score some 3 minutes later... 23-18 EG.

Sac scores a bucket, then 2 FT’s next time down... 23-22 EG.

EG’s leading scorer on the bench with 2 fouls, til just now... 1:27 left 2nd. Sac FT good, twice. 24-23 Sac. EG scores on a runout... , then Sac fouls on rebounds... 1 and 1, first goes, 2nd also goes. 27-24, EG leads. 35 secs left... Sac tries to milk shot clock, ends up not getting a shot off... 2 secs left, EG ball on their own end... Time out EG.

Halfcourt shot by EG’s leading scorer... Nope. Hit inside the ring, tho...

BTW, EG’s scorer is A. Britton...

The 6’8” guy is Daion Lott.

Can’t say all that much about Sac’s roster from Maxpreps, cuz most of it is messed up.

Nifty Sac pass inside, but the big not quite able to handle it... 41-39 Sac after 3.
