In general, WCAL teams are pretty generic run teams. Good QBs are typically wasted in this league unless these players are strong on the run option. Even for teams that use the spread as an offensive alternative seem to be poorly prepared in play action. Perhaps the best WCAL team in recent past was Bellarmine. The key to their game, during those years, was the carefully honed QB option as ball carrier. In fact, this seems to be the main style throughout the WCAL.
A great Wing T offensive can be a powerful weapon, but if the opponent knows that is the near-exclusive offense they will face, lots of prep time can be generated to counteract. The best teams of all, though, seems to fast and strong OL/DL, with good secondary and skill players and a highly-disciplined coach that trains his team to be effective in a balanced offense and stingy defense.
