HMB sits @ 5-0 how far will they go in new format?

The 'Dores have been one of the biggest disappointments for me so far. I was really expecting them to be nipping at the heels of Salinas and Soquel. Now, it seems they may not even finish 3rd. There doesn't seem to have been much growth/improvement over last year.

I think both Palma and Monterey will have to watch out for Hollister, too. I was surprised they beat Aptos so easily.
Have you seen them play? Just curious. I do agree that they have been a disappointment. We all know their talent is capable of playing at a higher level.

Hollister plays Palma well when Palma doesn't have strong passing attack. This yearso far passing is average. Not terrible but needs more work, They have good WRs but QB is still getting experience and better. Hollister defense usually defends run well. I think you are right that it could be a matchup with Palma. Monterey seems like they don't have the lines they had last season.

Monterey is a tough team to predict. They are capable of beating and playing with all the big teams in the area. They are also capable of losing to a mid tier team. We saw it happen last year and this is a team that returns majority of their core players. We are several weeks away from that match up so we will see. Monterey has Soquel the week before so tough back to back games. This game is not a shoo in for Palma to win. The Gab is much closer than people think. It feels like a year that there could be a share of the Gab title between 2-3 teams. I don't see any team running away with it. If there is an undefeated team at the end, I can promise it wasn't an easy path.

Under the radar QB's in the C.C.S.

Let me preface my "nominee" by stating that I have no skin in the game- and that my "expertise" is mainly with the southern portion of the CCS.
If this kid was playing at a more prominent program- you would have heard of him earlier in the season. He is Brody Edmunds out of Pacific Grove High School. An old school 3 sport athlete- Brody split time as a sophomore last year and now is in full control as a junior. A lanky 6'5"- 6'6"- he is able to make all the throws and is extremely accurate even on the run. He seems to also have that "it' factor. Plays shortstop and pitches ( reports say he is touching 90 on the bump ) in the spring and basketball in the winter. If and when his body catches up to his raw skills- his ceiling will be unlimited.

The path to improvement isn't what we think

There are so many factors that contribute to improvement that simply saying "we both were hard workers so why didn't he improve as much as I did" doesn't do justice to all that goes into improvement. Sleep, nutrition, external stressors, balancing maximum efforts with active recovery days, etc all play a role in improvement. I haven't read the book but plan to but it seems like unless everything was the same in the majority of those categories, its hard to make the claim that some people are "untrainable". I think we all know that some people are more genetically gifted than others but especially when it comes to running, there is such a science to training programs that maybe his teammate was overtraining and that's why he wasn't improving as much as he was. Or maybe he was getting an extra hour more of sleep on average and that was improving his recovery, etc. I'm just not buying that "the data says training is overrated"

College Gameday in Berkeley

The reality is CAL is only one of 6 power conference teams that have never hosted Game Day. Its more of lets tick off the woke crowd and get it off the list so we don't get accused of being discriminatory. Fun to me is when ESPN went to Bozeman and Corso broke out the chaps and cowboy gear. I guess Kirk can wear the tie dye.

I think it will be a good game, however. I could see a 35-25 type Miami win.
Not really the other big game was the TAMU who already hosted Gamedsy this years they don’t go to the same place twice in less than 6 weeks

I think Palma will beat Monterey. Defense is better this year (very quick and tough against the run) and Monterey will have a tough time stopping Palma ball control offense. Palma defense made a couple mistakes letting a WR get behind them against Salinas and Monterey has some speed but so does Palma. Monterey QB is a load but don't see them being able to keep it going for 4 quarters. Salinas is a better team than Monterey. Salinas and Soquel game is going to be interesting and close. Palma lines will prevail this year and wear Monterey down which they didn't last season (my opinion). Both Palma RBs are fast and very hard runners. Sophs Dukes and Hernandez are legit D1 prospects (Dukes younger brother on the frosh team is another one to watch). Palma Soquel is another story. I think that could be close as well, but got to favor Soquel
