1. De La Salle (3-0)
Dominic Kelley rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns and the Spartans ran for nearly 400 yards in a 42-7 win over St. Francis. With three wins over Top 10 teams, the Spartans have shown to have some of its best team speed in years and a physical defense with a talented defensive line. The Spartans take on St. Mary’s-Stockton on Friday.
2. Serra (1-2)
The Padres were within four points of St. John Bosco at 14-10 in the second quarter, but the Braves scored two touchdowns before the half to gain control in a 56-16 win in San Mateo. Nano Latu and Charlie Willey had rushing touchdowns for the Padres. Tight end Clay Hinsdale was their leading receiver. Serra is back in action on September 27 against St. Ignatius.
3. Folsom (2-1)
Ryder Lyons went 21-for-25 for 284 yards and three touchdowns (two to Jameson Powell) in a 56-14 win over Turlock. Overall, the Bulldogs amassed more than 500 total yards and registered six tackles for loss on defense. The top two teams in the SFL are scheduled to face off on Friday as Folsom hosts Rocklin.
4. Pittsburg (3-0)
Pittsburg jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and held off Riordan 56-42 in an exciting back and forth Top 20 matchup. Jamar Searcy ran for 164 yards and four touchdowns and had a fourth quarter interception. Freshman Kenneth Ward had a 31 yard touchdown catch and returned an interception 74 yards for a score. It only gets harder for the Pirates as they travel to St. John Bosco on Friday.
5. Rocklin (3-0)
The Thunder were off this week heading into Friday’s showdown with Folsom. Rocklin has scored at least 41 points in each non-league game with its best win coming against Bishop Manogue (48-17).
6. St. Francis-Mountain View (2-1)
Kingston Keanaaina ran for 114 yards to continue his big start to the 2024 season, but the Lancers trailed 21-0 in the first half en route to a 42-7 loss to De La Salle. Since beating the Spartans in 2021, the Lancers have lost three straight in this season and haven’t scored more than 17 points in any matchup. St. Francis is off this week before WCAL play starts on September 27 against Bellarmine.
7. San Ramon Valley (3-0)
San Ramon Valley led Clayton Valley Charter 21-7 at the half and 31-7 early in the fourth quarter in a 31-15 win. Rhett Thompson threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns in connecting with six different receivers. Evan Economos finished with 78 yards and a touchdown. The defense forced two turnovers with Braeden Forschler returning a fumble for a score. The Wolves will travel to McClymonds on Friday.
8. Grant (2-2)
Taking on maybe the top team in the Central Section, Grant fell to Clovis East 59-45 to even its record at 2-2. Brandon Lambert ran for 142 yards and a touchdown and Luke Alexander threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns. His top receiver was Koby Shabazz, who had 10 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in the loss. Grant starts league play against Destiny Christian as the favorite in the Metro League.
9. Los Gatos (3-0)
Los Gatos led Live Oak-Morgan Hill 35-0 at the half and cruised to a 35-6 win going into Thursday’s game against Mountain View. Scotty Brennan tossed touchdowns to Max Thomas and Owen Panu and Beau Musser returned a punt for a touchdown. Zane Frey had an interception for the Wildcats.
10. St. Mary’s-Stockton (2-1)
The Rams had their bye week last weekend as they prepared to host De La Salle.They beat the Spartans 45-35 in 2022 and lost 24-10 in Concord last year. It will be the Rams first home game after starting the season with three road games.
11. Riordan (1-2)
The Crusaders found big success on the ground with Jeremiah Jones rushing for nearly 300 yards and two touchdowns, but they lost to Pittsburg 56-42. Michael Mitchell Jr. made numerous highlight plays, but Riordan couldn’t overcome a slow start that saw them down 28-7 after the first quarter. Riordan has given up at least 34 points in each game this season. They start league play on September 28 against Sacred Heart Cathedral.
12. McClymonds (1-2)
Sharky Tamale had three rushing touchdowns and McClymonds led 14-7 at the half en route to beating Bishop O’Dowd 28-14 in an all Oakland matchup. Rahsjon Duncan had an interception for the Warriors, which will try to even their record on Friday against San Ramon Valley. These two programs have split their past two meetings.
13. Inderkum (3-1)
Ricky Cole threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns (two to Lono Chouteau) as Inderkum beat Cosumnes Oaks 42-6. Cole added a rushing touchdown and Kyle Gurganious had a 52 yard touchdown run. League play starts this week against Christian Brothers.
14. Soquel (1-2)
Soquel trailed Valley Christian 10-7 at the half, but outscored the Warriors 20-0 en route to a 27-10 win for their first victory. Quarterback Sam Whelan had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown. Jake Escalante had two interceptions for the Knights. They travel to Scotts Valley on Friday with the league opener against Palma on October 4.
15. Liberty (2-1)
Jaxon Bell rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown and Sage Robertson threw two touchdown passes in a 34-21 win over Tracy. The Lions trailed 14-7 after the first quarter and 21-13 in the second quarter before they scored the final 21 points. They travel to Amador Valley this week in one of the best games of the week.
16. St. Ignatius (2-1)
The Wildcats got one of the better wins of the week with a 16-14 win over Cathedral Catholic. Soren Hummel threw two touchdown passes and Jarious Hogan rushed for more than 100 yards. Happy Rosenberg and Sui Gallegos-Hunkin combined for four sacks. After an off week, St. Ignatius will host Serra.
17. Cardinal Newman (3-0)
The Cardinals rushed for more than 400 yards and Jamari Gentry and Sam Keating each rushed for more than 100 yards in a 56-21 win over Armijo. Zion Cargill had a touchdown catch and touchdown run in the win. Next up, Cardinal Newman will host Bishop O’Dowd in its toughest test to date.
18. El Cerrito (2-0)
El Cerrito’s game against Oakland Tech was canceled after a
conflict in the stands broke out onto the field. El Cerrito was leading the game 6-0. The Gauchos will be back in action on Friday against Campolindo.
19. Granite Bay (3-0)
The Grizzlies had a bye week before starting SFL action on Friday at undefeated Jesuit. They are giving up 10 points per game and have balanced offensive production at around 300 yards per game.
20. Bishop O’Dowd (2-1)
The Dragons were looking to build off their win over Monte Vista, but struggled to gain traction in a 28-14 loss to McClymonds. Saliou Sow had a rushing touchdown and John Teti returned an interception for a score. Bishop O’Dowd has another Top 20 test this week against Cardinal Newman.
