What Happened State Title Best of the Best

Hello to all. I decided per another thread and a old high school basketball junkie, to do some research and provide info on why this new system the CIF has in place is pathetic when it comes to state title teams.

For those that don’t know before my first year at Golden 1 which developed health issues, I sat on the floor at Arco for quite a few years, and why to watch the best of the best line up and go at it.

So a debate has been generated and some feel the state title games lack the best talent and teams, and others think it is great.

Well today I am gonna turn back the clock to 2008. I remember watching outside of Jason Kidd, the best state performance I have ever seen, it was amazing. But before I provide The Who’s who of the below, please of your respond explain to me how the lineup of this past weekend even comes close. Anyways let’s get to the matchups. I will note the amazing kid last.

D1 We had Dominguez Compton play McClymonds Oakland. Unfortunately I had a hard time finding the roster and info on Dominguez, but let’s go with McClymonds who won.

Frank Otis Weber State, Will Cherry a tad bit of time planting with that dude King James in Cleveland, and Damon Powell who could jump from Sacramento back to Oakland.

D2 We had Mater Dei play Mitty.

Gary Franklin Baylor, those Wear twins who went to that college that dude Air Jordan went to, and Andy Brown who went to Stanford.

Colin Chiverton St Mary’s, John Adam’s Lehigh, Andoh Bucknell, and that dude AG brother DG who went to UCLA

D5 We had Branson versus Renaissance Academy, Oliver Harvard McNelly versus Hector Pepperdine Harold

Now this of you that think this collective equity is awesome, follow me further cause now it gets great.

D4 We had Campbell Hall versus St Mary’s Berkeley. We had this kid some of you have heard named Jrue Holiday, when his contract is up he will have made just under 300mil versus Will Brew UCSB

And last but not least, your local love, one half of the splash brothers, D3 Santa Margarita versus Sac High, KLAY THOMPSON, with his teammate aka his brother who plays for Dodgers along with another teammate who played as a tight end for the Cowboys.

Their opponent light weight work, 7 foot Robert Garret Santa Clara and Chase Tapley whose father is a NorCal prep legend San Diego State.

In closing and as a basketball junkie, this is state championship competition PERIOD. The way it is now, and as good ole Vukovoch said, it’s now participation. So this junkie doesn’t want to watch players, I want to watch the best of the best. Bring back the old system.

And I could provide many other years. Jordan Hamilton, Tyshaun Prince, Jeremy Lin, James Harden, I could go on and on. Peace out, the current system is completely broken.

The Oldest Of Playground Legends

The Oldest of Playground Legends. A DROLL STORY:

Did you ever wonder why some shots just seem to hang at the rim. They roll around, hang there, and go in or out?

They’re not your every day Hoopsters. But man they love the game!

The kid at the playground was trying to get all the info on them that he could. It seemed like he would never stop pestering the old timer who showed up at the playground every day.

The kid asked him, “ You actually saw one once?” That’s right kid I did. It had been some years since anyone had shown this much interest, in one of the oldest of playground legends. “The Drolls “

Legend had it they were tiny hoopsters, invisible to humans. They would sit up on the rim during games, and play their own style of hoops.

Spinning the ball round and round in the cylinder, then pushing it in or out, depending on their mood, and the crowds reaction.

When a player took a shot, they would sit up there and decide whether they would let the ball drop, that is if it was a good shot, and was going in anyway.

They would scan the crowd and watch the expectations in the crowds eyes. Sometimes if the score was tied, they would play keep away for several shots, driving the crowd into a frenzy!

Every so often they would snatch the ball and jam it between the rim and backboard.

Then watch in fun as some small kid, or out of shape old guy, try to jump up and dis-lodge it. “ Hey can we borrow your ball for a second?” They got a kick out of that . Kind of mean if you ask me.

I think Michael Jordan pissed them off with the tongue thing. I mean there he was, tongue wagging, flying to the hoop with no warning, and slamming it thru. They barely had time to get out of the way. That really made them really edgy.

They all had favorites. They loved Rodman. He livened things up for them, they would flip him the ball quite often when he went up for rebounds. They just had their own crazy ways of doing things.

So, have you had enough storytelling he said to the kid?

You mean that was just a story, and not for real? I thought you said you saw them once? Well, I have never actually seen them, but I’ve seen what they can do.

Hey kid, I heard something recently. What’s that said the kid?

Last I heard, they were headed to Golden One Arena. Something about big high school crowds, and lot’s of fans to play with. Man those Drolls just love the game.

Here’s wishing you great hoops!

NorCal-SoCal

Great posts earlier on the state games, especially the lively chat on Mitty-Sierra Canyon.

Listen folks, 60% of the state resides in the vast landscape of SoCal and it shows in areas like the Open Division.

Short of taking a great player from each section near the Bay and putting them on one squad, our region will always scrape and scrounge to finish 7-10 points (usually, anyway) short of beating SoCal powers (GIRLS AS WELL AS BOYS) that show up here for state as battle tested squads in a way NorCal teams cannot begin to comprehend.

We Tied The Record For Wins

It looked like after the first day, we were going to break the record for wins at state. After going 5 & 1

In 2004 we won all five girls games and two of the boys. This was before the open was added.
That was the year of the Paris Sisters. And it was a banner year for the Girls.
for the Girls it was:
D 5 Forest lake Christian
D 4 Piedmont
D 3 St Mary's Stockton
D 2 Corondelet
D 1 Oakland Tech
For the Boys it was St. Joseph's in D 4
And Modesto Christian in D 5.

Notice how things have changed!

Here's wishing you great hoops

Another Shoe Drops in Our PC Society

Baseball Announces Coaching Staff Changes

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - On Dec. 17, 2021, after receiving complaints from members of the USF community, USF baseball head coach Nino Giarratano and associate coach Troy Nakamura were suspended with pay, pending results of an internal investigation. Conducted by USF's Office of Human Resources, the investigation was focused on reports of incidents within the baseball program where the coaches' language, behavior and/or actions were inappropriate and did not reflect USF's mission and values.

As a result of that investigation, Coach Nakamura is no longer associated with the USF baseball program, effective immediately. Coach Giarratano was officially reprimanded for inappropriate behavior related to the reported incidents.

While the investigation did not find evidence of a widespread harmful culture within the baseball program, the reported incidents indicated that coaches showed poor judgment and lack of supervision. The university has taken immediate action to address this. Procedures are being put in place to ensure baseball team members are ensured a respectful, safe environment with proper oversight, direction, and mentoring by their coaches. The well-being of all students at USF is our highest priority.

The Athletic Department and the university is grateful to members of the community who came forward with concerns and provided information. We are also grateful to the staff in Human Resources who conducted a thorough, swift and comprehensive investigation.

CN vs West County

the game is being televised on YSN365 tonight.

CN 17-4. 6-0
West County 17-3. 5-1

CN got them by 19 in 1st matchup at WC ...BUT it was only a 4pt game starting the 4th.

There is no Shaughnessy/NBL playoffs this season as its been Covid cancelled so this is the last time these 2 teams will play and the last potential shot that West County has at ending the CN NBL dominance after an off-season of LOTS of social media and word of mouth chatter coming out of the West County crew about how this was their year.

7:30 start..
