Norcal bids on the line!

Well from the sjs and most of the ncs the chance to make it to the state tournament comes tomorrow. Some teams have already qualified like Albany. They have a great record and a tough matchup with campo. Luckily and deserving for them they will get to advance since odowd is an obvious open division team. Anyhow was wondering if anyone had any predictions.
I'll hold off on the CCS til those match ups are set. But I did have a question about CCS d4. Could anybody help me out? They have 3 teams in the open so they automatically qualify for norcals. So is it only the CCS d4 champ that gets to advance? 2nd place gets a banner and bus ride home?Ouch

Well here's my semifinal match ups

The Southern Teams in the SJS are just sorry

After you get past Stockton the only program worth a damn is Modesto Christian. Look at last night's scores every team besides Modesto Christian got blown out. Golden Valley comes in at 23 - 3 and 10-0 in league gets beat by Elk Grove who is a competitive team but finished at 19 - 9 and 7 - 7 with a 4th place finish in league. I'm glad the SJS is going with Maxprep first 12 rankings but there are teams left out of the playoffs and there are teams that are in the playoffs that just should not be in the playoffs.

Too many post-season games?

I have questioned the value of such an extended post-season for high school basketball. Too many teams and meaningless early round mismatches. Give the kids a break, or at least an opportunity to transition earlier to their Spring sports, AAU, or whatever they have planned next.

So I looked at last night's NCS scores, for both boys and girls. Just D1, D2 and D3 so far. Focused on the games between the top 4 seeds against the bottom 4 seeds. Many blowouts. 4 "close" games (decided by less than 10 points). One upset by a 13 seed over a 4 seed.

Could be worse, I suppose. But if I had a vote, I would still reduce the NCS pools from 16 to 8 teams, and send only 2 teams, not 4, on to Norcals.

NCS 1st Round Predictions 2/24

D1:

Monte Vista- Blowout but Antioch is athletic and streaky.
De La Salle- Close then you might think but the Spartans style of play isn't seen much in this league.
San Ramon- Might have the most talent in this Division.
Freedom- Won both game by 10, should be close to the same here.
College Park- Upset alert, benefits from a home game cause of being a league champ. I will be here!!
Granada- Upset alert, Johnson still isn't done yet.
Amador- Very close, Chaffee and Ruotolo inside outside game will be enough to set the pace.
Castro Valley- Falcons are on a skid and injuries factor in here too.

D2:

El Cerrito- David vs. Goliath
Montgomery- Arroyo lacks talent and size.
Dublin- Mt. Eden is lucky to be here and it will be short lived.
Las Lomas- Disappointed in their seed and they take it out here but Pinole is Scrappy.
Windsor- Upset alert. San Marin's league will hurt them.
Concord- San Lorenzo only has a few wins over teams with a winning record.
Casa Grande- To much talent to lose here.
Newark- Coaching alone gets the win here.

D3:

O'Dowd- Bye
Moreau- Bye
Drake- Won't be tested until they play Moreau.
Campo- Blowout to prove they deserve to be higher.
Albany- Great season continues here.
Piner- Upset alert, plays very hard on both ends and gets after you defensively.
Miramonte- 5th place team in the DFAL gets a home game and a win.
Alhambra- Upset alert. 6th place team in the DFAL scores a win on the road.
