2015 National Title IX DC Classic Brackets (12/28 - 12/30)

Brackets here ==> http://nebula.wsimg.com/1376eff7663...F84E51C74A08E4BEC&disposition=0&alloworigin=1

Interestingly, Riverdale Baptist is not in the same bracket as SMS, St. Francis (GA), Konawaena (HI) - the Patsy T. Mink Bracket. I wonder if last minute changes will be made, especially considering the performance of Riverdale Baptist at the Nike TOC's vs SMS. Riverdale Baptist, instead is in the 4-team Wahine MS Bracket with Potter House (FL).

Oscar Frayer looking at 4 schools

Per his twitter just now:

"I've narrowed down my list 4 schools *NO ORDER*:
Oregon State
Grand Canyon
Nevada
Saint Mary's"

With Jordan Ford already in the fold, I gotta say I'm hoping he chooses SMC... would be a lot more interested in this local team if they start getting local players... although a Norcal trio of Oscar, Cam Oliver and Kenny Wooten would make for a pretty insane midnight madness dunk contest at Nevada lol...

Somewhat off-topic, but UCSD with Chris Hansen gets a wild win

The UCSD Tritons beat Cal State San Marcos 69-65 to go to 5-0 in league despite having only four players left
at the end of the game.

They had one guy out due to injury and another was injured during the game... and FOUR guys fouled out!

The Tritons had to play the last two defensive sequences 4-on-5. One of the four guys left was Hansen, who snagged two big defensive boards in those two sequences.

Overall, he scored 13 points and snared 7 boards in 24 minutes.

NorCal Open Division

As we gaze at the unfolding NorCal girls' hoops landscape, it's becoming clear (again) that the system for providing an Open Division team to face the SoCal entrant in the CIF state title tilt, is flawed. The NorCal basketball setup should mirror what football does. There, the NorCal commissioners simply decreed that De La Salle would be the NorCal Open rep. By avoiding a NorCal Open playoff, a strong team like Folsom or Bellarmine could remain viable in a lower division. NorCal hoops authorities should consider the same scenario. Name SMS (or some other clear-cut Number One) as the Open rep without having Open playoffs, freeing up teams like Miramonte, Pinewood and Mitty to compete in their proper enrollment divisions. Last year, SI, Pinewood and SHC were forced into the Open where SMS rolled the field, denying those three other schools a chance to represent (and strengthen) the North in their proper enrollment divisions. SoCal has more schools, bigger enrollments and more options. So, for them, competition in the Open Division makes some sense. Not so much in the North where tossing strong teams into the Open ends up undermining and seriously diluting the competition.

Joe Cattolico is the new HC at Sheldon High

Nice to see Coach Joe back in the game. I have little doubt that Sheldon will become relevant quite soon.

Though Cattolico had been contacted by many schools wanting him to join their staff the past couple years, he's always wanted to keep his family in Elk Grove.

"We like Elk Grove, we like the schools, the neighborhoods, "he explained. "Not that all the other places aren't nice too, but we're happy to professionally stay in this community because we like it."

Alongside has been his father, Butch, a retired football coach who was successful for many years at Los Gatos High School. Now, the elder Cattolico will be on the sidelines again. Joe has already hired Butch as his top assistant at Sheldon.

Centennial's "Traveling Party"

http://www.latimes.com/sports/highs...to-sacramento-will-be-278-20151214-story.html

Centennial is bringing 278 people to the SBG. 126 players, 25 coaches, six crew members, eight trainers, 80 band members, two band coaches, 24 cheerleaders, three cheer coaches and four administrators.

126 players? I assume this includes their JV team as well... With call-ups, DLS may have ~65.
I've never liked it when teams have 100+ on their roster. First that means numbers are shared, but most importantly that means a lot of players who will never get decent playing time. It would suck to wear the jersey but never play a down...

NBA basketball travel

I know this topic is not forum-related, but I'm not sure who else with whom to discuss this.

The Bulls lost a FOUR-overtime game Friday night, and had a game in New York Saturday night. Bulls traveled to NY right after game, and arrived at their NY hotel at 4 am. Predictable results of game with the Knicks - a loss.

Would it not be better to
  • stay at home Friday night
  • sleep in one's own bed
  • have a good breakfast at home
  • travel Saturday morning
which would allow a rested team to arrive in NY, still with time to get in some shooting before the game?
