An informative story for the upcoming 2016-17 CCS football season of the top QBs in the section. No surprise to see the usual suspects - TKA's Michael Johnson, Mitty's Philip Tran, Serra's Leki Nunn, Bells' Ike Ogbogu and VC's Miles Kendrick...Also a nice surprise to see Riordan's Xavier Caracter mentioned in "Five more to keep an eye on".
Let the football discussions begin!!!

Couple others I would mention -

Kyle Reid (Los Gatos) - Bellarmine transfer who will keep the LG QB tradition alive. Big, strong, athletic and has a live arm...typical LG QB.

Jackson Chryst (Palo Alto) - Should start for PA as a soph....younger brother of Keller Chryst (PA/Stanford).

Miles Conrad (Menlo-Atherton) - Led young team to a co-league championship as mid-season call up sophomore.

Nathan Gordon (Terra Nova) - Junior starter takes over the reigns on the TN fast break attack...younger brother of Anthony Gordon (TN/CCSF/Washington State).

Casey Mornhinweg (Stevenson) - Smooth lefty completed 60% of his passes.

Jonathan Hugo (Carmel) - Returning starter in the always productive Carmel offense.

Some of these are going to be good HS QBs and a couple potential D1 prospects

Oak Grove

Tyler Mcgovern, Sr, QB, 6-3, 190, Mobile (can make plays with his legs - 4.8 40 but didn't rush much last season) and throws the ball well at times (1,141 yards and 14 TDs last season). High upside if he puts the work in. Won Palo Alto 7s passing tournament. Defeated Serra.

St Francis
Reed Vettel, Jr, 6-4, 185, QB, played in loss to Citrus Hill in the CIF D2-A state bowl game and strong armed passer. Maybe D1 prospect. Needs to get stronger and more polished but high upside and will have great receivers this coming season.

Stevenson
Casey Mornhinweg, Sr, QB, 5-11, 170, all league, single-season school record last fall (2,104) and touchdown passes (19). Uncle is Ravens quarterbacks coach Marty Mornhinweg, completed over 60 percent of his passes last season. Needs to get stronger on long passes. Good HS QB.

Salinas HS
Brett Reade, Jr, QB, 6-2, 170, looks like he will be very good from what I saw of him as an underclass. Not sure he is starting this season but if he does will have lots of yards passing in their offense.High upside. Salinas has a Palma junior High transfer that will be a frosh - Carl Richardson, 6-3, 170 (brother of Stanford walk-on) who is borderline elite for his class. This is based on camps he has attended, seeing him play and also how hard he trans (mentored by his brother, Chicago Bears backup David Fales, and others). Carl may play JV this season and probably will compete to start next season.

North Salinas
Timothy Burkhardt, Sr, 5-11, 190, QB, 4.8 40, 1700 yards passing and 601 yards rushing and and 25 TDs last season.

Palma
Zach Flores, Sr, QB, 5-10, 180, Back up in 2015, but excellent passing QB. Great accuracy and touch on passes with excellent ball placement. Not super fleet of foot but mobile, strong, and throws intermediate well and timing on long throws good. Was excellent frosh and JV QB. Among better ones at Palma. Excellent receivers so should have a good year with their strong balanced offense.

Glaum returning starter lead aptos to D4 ccs championship should be mentioned. Good returning skill players surround him as well.

Hugo moved to So Cal. Carmel's QB cupboard isn't empty...but its likely rushing yards will exceed passing yards again this year....the 8th season in a row when the Padres have more rushing yards than passing yards.

Yes...Aptos - Gavin Glaum, Sr, QB, 6-1, 170 is very good.

Yes...Hugo was good. Seems to transfer alot. Didn't he transfer to Carmel from Monta Vista Christian in Watsonville.

Agree about Carmel rushing attack....Covossay Windham, Sr, RB , 5-11, 235 is a load.

Out of the 831

Carmel also had Daniel Higman in for some QB last season, 35 of 51, 330 yds. He also rushed for 91 times for 663 yds and 5 tds. Not sure if that translates to him being the starter.

Brett Reade: will be the starter at Salinas, he has had the helm during 7's all season to date. Should have a good career at Salinas overall, curious if the rumors of a coaching change are true after this season, and if so what offense goes in next year for the Cowboys.

Sure Enough, John D just blogged about Higman and stated he had over 600 yds in 4 starts

Glad to see the HMB kid getting some love ! Not easy to do coming from a small town in a run first offense and playing in the PAL. He put up some respectable numbers, broke several school records and won a CCS championship his Soph. year.

Yes, Reed Vettel looked pretty good for a sophomore making his first start in the state championship game that Saint Francis lost 23-20 to Citrus Hill. He went 8 of 17 for 209 yards and two TD's. Not great numbers but not bad either.

I still dont know why Akina did not start that game.

Akina was hurt in earlier game I believe.

Serra's backup QB, Damelio, is very good. Would be a starter at most schools. But plays behind Nunn.
