When I see a team doing 3-on-2 during warmups, I'm often left puzzled. The group with the ball often makes 3, 4, or 5 passes resulting in a layup. Granted that this may simply be a relaxed way to warm up, but it seems to encourage bad habits in real 3-on-2 situation, inevitably in transition. You'll only get 1, or 2 tops passes before recovering defenders catch up. It's gotta be bang-bang or its over. Why not instill this mindset in addition to warming up? Kill two birds with one stone (or, as a health food store clerk recently suggested to me, feed two birds with one scone). Also minimize overpassing in finishing. Mind you, more and more things puzzle me lately...

Pregame warmups are actually pretty tricky. You want the players to get loose and in a competitive mood, but you sure don't want anyone twisting an ankle. And you'd like everyone to get a lot of shots, since making shots is what wins games.

I've never really figured it out, and I don't know that anyone has. Sometimes teams come out flat, and sometimes they come out ready to play, and some good teams have intense warmups and some good teams don't.
