Your beloved Colonel is nothing if not a diehard contrarian. He has watched the CIF's equity-based bowl setup since its inception. He gets it. Like plays like. Balance is key. As much as the ratings game makes it possible. But here's another notion, based on a different kind of sporting metric: Take the top 15 teams from North and South and let them fight it out on the artificial turf. One plays one. Two plays Two. Etc. Then we might have a better handle on which half of the state really does produce the most top units. Won't happen. That dinghy has sailed. One does wonder, though.
 
If CalPreps is a good barometer, afraid there would be a number of lop-sided games. Top 15 teams in the South versus the North. CalPreps ranking in columns 2 and 5.
