I'm passing on a question I got from a friend and I for once don't know the answer. Rules have changed on many things. The question is can a JV player be called up to varsity after league starts. He thought after league started you had to wait for playoffs? I had heard starting this year even a varsity kid could play JV till league. But that's heard haven't seen actual rule! Anyone have an answe I can pass on?

San Rafael had a a sophomore play Varsity first 2 games, then moved down to JV, but then after 2 games of league play he came back up to Varsity for last nights game. So I assume its only when the guy is on Varsity in league play, he can't go back down, but I could be wrong,

I know in the Northern Section a JV player can go up to varsity at any time. However once league starts that JV player cannot go back down to JVs once he has played in a league game.

There is no NFHS rule regarding player movement either way. Unless your league has something above and beyond- there are no restrictions.

I have heard this general rule in other sections too.
