One additional note re Serra: The Padres are a young team, dominated by juniors and sophomores. They are led by a poised, gifted 6-4 pro-style junior QB who has multiple major DI offers. He appears to be the best pure pocket passer on West 20th Avenue since Tom Brady. High praise indeed. Serra's unbeaten and top NorCal stature thus far has been somewhat surprising, considering their reletive youth. In fairness, they didn't pummel either Folsom or DLS. Both games could have been losses. For that matter, Central Catholic moved the ball and scored 30 digits vs. Serra on Saturday in San Mateo. Not bad for an outmanned roster of under three dozen kids who next face the nation's No.1 team, St. John Bosco. Will Serra lose a WCAL contest this year? It's not out of the question. But it seems to be unlikely. Their roster is deep. There is loads of size and team speed. Their kicking game is strong. The coaching and preparation are stellar. A 10-0 regular season mark (something this program has never accomplished since it began in 1946) does seem possible. But that's looking too far ahead. A road game with St. Francis looms in two weeks. That should tell us something.
