Didn't take long for schools to take notice that Akinjo might be the hottest recruit still available for the 2018 class.

Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Providence, Tennessee, Georgetown and Wichita St. have all extended offers to Akinjo over the last couple of days.

I'm not surprised. He's a very good player. Hopefully he finds a good fit. Seems like a UVA type would be perfect given how well defensively he has been taught at Salesian.

Whoever gets him will get a pitbull at point guard... that said, a little strange that all of these schools listed are back east like UCONN... every Pac-12 school should be all over this kid right now, what are they doing? Or maybe I missed it, has he made it known he wants to get away from West Coast for college maybe?

Maybe they are all over him and he doesn't like them. Recruiting is a two way street

Also sometimes kids like to getaway from their hometown for college. Gives them a chance to focus on their craft without all the distractions.

Might be the reason why Akinjo still wants to go back East.

It’s puzzling to me because you would think that he has mad athletic ability, the two guards that play along side him at Salesian are much more explosive than he is!!! What’s all the hype about?

Maybe he wants to play for a black head coach. (GTOWN/UCONN). Dan Hurley is black Irish. But he can flat out coach and as a former PG might be a good fit.

Don't know about hype. The kid is very good and I think will be a solid player in college wherever he goes.

I really don't see the connection you're making. The kid chose a program/coach. The coach is gone. The relationship is gone. For some people, the relationship matters. Do your googles or talk to people who know him. It might offer insight into who the young man is.

PS there are non-black coaches on the list ayalar posted

I can understand doing your due diligence and research after Ollie got fired but man still no
Word on where he is going??

James Akinjo has a lot of options ....

I really got to like that Seton Hall team this year, that program is a good fit for a norcal pg, and the big east is returning to prominence! I feel the brand of hoops that conference plays is very similar to our norcal brand. khadeem Carrington leaves big shoes to fill, but what a great opportunity that would be!

Can someone explain to what sense does it make for some of the top rated high school players
who are still uncommitted would go out and participate in all star games having
Not inked there name on a letter of intent.

Only thing I can think of, would be if it’s players trying to swallow up the last couple of scholarships teams currently have available. Maybe a guy who originally committed to a D2 or D3 all of a sudden gets interest from a D1 school.

But at this point, I agree, most schools know exactly what direction their roster is going on.

Maybe Akinjo and Brown are waiting on the $$$.
With college hoops being the way they are, you can't blame one for thinking.

Why would a top D1 still have big $$$ left this late in the recruiting process?

What is interesting is the late period is now more crowded with all of the transfers. Doesn't really affect Brown or even Akinjo to a point, but I think teams are playing with more options and more likely to move on quicker if they don't like the read of the tea leaves.

Because he reopened his recruiting a few weeks ago after getting a release from his NLI.

My thoughts no matter his choice to reopen his option most great programs are done signing the top high school prospects. When your program is that good you don't have to wait for players to decide. I am sure the Duke's, Kentucky's, Kansas' and such are starting to focus on off season workouts. They have moved on; why hold on to a pocket full on money?

If the college program is that dirty, an availability of funds will never be an option. I agree that most top programs are done recruiting but I view programs like UVA, Rick Barnes led UT, and Wichita as being pretty good as well. In addition, I don't see Akinjo as a program changed (I hope I'm wrong). He never had the Duke, UK, KU interest for that reason. He'll be a solid college player but he'll be dependent on the talent around him.

James has some very good choices so I am sure he is evaluating each of them and taking the process slowly. Virginia is a great program and Bennett seems to get great results out of his talent, Wichita State is certainly a contender every year now and plays up tempo (although sooner or later Coach Marshall is going to leave for a bigger program IMHO so that is a risk, Georgetown is improving materially under Ewing, who has many NBA contacts and they a good nucleus of young wings and excellent offensive post players in Dickerson and Govan to feed the ball to and I cannot think of any team with a more desperate need for a PG (so James would walk in and start there from day one), Arizona has holes to fill at PG as well and is a blue blood program, but risk is there with the FBI stuff, Rick Barnes always plays up tempo and this suits James' game. If James is looking for a proven winner, it seems to me the Gonzaga and UVA are top options. If he is looking to develop into an NBA pg, and play NBA style offense, and start asap, the Georgetown is certainly appealing. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Guys, I get it these are good options however do you think they have held on to 1 fully funded scholarship? That's a lot of money to have on April 4, 2018 of the recruiting process. Programs usually give the full rides away early.

Well for James Akinjo I’m sure all these colleges that are offering have full funding available. You got to remember these are big name schools that lose kids early to the nba draft. Or kids transfer all the time. Some schools save scholarships for a late bloomer or someone who waits it out like a Jordan Brown, Romeo Langford to name a couple.

Hmmmm; this is an interesting process around our USA Higher Educational Institution system. They are giving Athletic Scholarships to “Student Athletes” that might not have any goals of getting a college degree with this opportunity. You stated the Athlete would leave early for the NBA. Or an Athlete might transfer because some unknown reason. Is the education an athlete can receive ever part of the decision? What are we teaching our children? And we wonder why the NCAA is so messed up country wide? Arizona? Connecticut? How can players determine a program is right for them if teammates are leaving before you get started good? Every move changes the overall decision and during this process you can lose sight of your opportunity to get an education [college degree].

So, we are still talking to the Academic Advising as to what the College can offer my future Educationally? Because my coaches or teammates can leave at any time and the entire basketball program can make a dramatic shift.

I wonder how many NorCal 3-4-5 Star Athletes that received a Scholarship at one time but didn’t make it to the NBA is without a College degree today? I personally know too many former NCAA basketball athletes in NorCal that used up 4 years of eligibility and they don’t make NBA money to enroll back in school to finish their education and get a basic under graduate degree [4 yr.]

I am questioning why would any highly recruited player who has yet to sign there letter
Of intent and still in the recruiting process go and play in a meaningless all star game
u see it alot in the McDonald's all American game there are always 3 or 4 uncommitted
guys playing just seems awful risky and a gamble not worth taking.

I was solely responding to what you stayed about College not having scholarships this late in the season bro. But once again you seem to misread ornunderstand the point i was trying to get across. Believe it or not some school make room for another scholarship. By trying to get rid of a current player.

That's pretty cut throat, but true and happens all the time. All the more reason to make sure your academics are in order.

@MoneyTeam0115 you are good man, I got the point you were making. I took the opportunity to raise the downside of the business. This seems like a great opportunity and it is, I am just adding additional points. I hope this young man picks a school, plays 4 years with that program and ends up with a degree. Some 4 year players become NBA All-Stars too and they make alot of money [Draymond Green, Dame Lillard, etc].

Arizona lost a bunch of committments and had guys go pro early. I am sure they have schollies left. I know Georgetown has at least one. I believe WSU lost a lot of guys to graduation so they may have some as well. I do not think that is an issue. With transfers etc. there are a lot of schollies around and teams now hold them for graduate transfers.

WVU would be nice. I hear he’s on an official right now at Georgetown. I can see him going in and starting right away there. They have to be selling that

West Virginia guards tend to be extremely athletic and unless I’m missing something the Akinjo kid has average athleticism. Again the two twin Salesian guards were much more explosive than Akinjo!!

I think Akinjo will be a very good PG at whatever school he ends up choosing. He might not be the most explosive or athletic guard but don't discount his skills. This kid can play. Reminds me a lot of CP3. Not saying he's going to be a pro but he doesn't have to play above the rim to be effective.

Mason Forbes, who is a good( not great) athlete made Akinjo look foolish in their open game. I'd say his lack of explosiveness will catch up with him.
