Alex Cappa gets Super Bowl ring

Alex Cappa (Dublin/Humboldt State) started all 16 regular season games for Tampa Bay before injuring his ankle against Washington and missing the rest of the playoffs. He was also a starter in 2019 after being drafted in the 3rd round in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Also saw a note that he will likely be the last NFL player from Humboldt State, which has since dibanded their program.

His rise as a player is one of the cool stories out of NorCal in recent years.

O stars. Was a tight end in high school before moving into the offensive line. Looks like he gained about 70 pounds since Dublin.

I can't believe the value the Bucs get from their offensive linemen. Starting left guard from D3 Hobart is Ali Marpet and Cappa from D2 Humbolt State is the starter at right guard. Starting centger Ryan Jensen played his college ball at CSU-Pueblo. Second string guard is undrafted rookie Aaron Stinnie from FCS James Madison who played the entire Super Bowl at right guard in place of Cappa. So much is written about quality offensive linemen from big programs like Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, etc......it's nice to see some small school guys succeed in the league.

It also looks like he played baseball in high school. Playing multi sports? Just think how much better of an NFL player he would be if he had dumped baseball and just concentrated on football back then.

Some of the best offensive and defensive linemen I have seen have wrestling in their backgrounds. I think it teaches leverage. My son was a damn good baseball player and in hindsight I wish I had also encouraged him to wrestle.

Sarcasm! The experts say you should quit all other sports and concentrate on one sport only. They don’t like well rounded athletes anymore.
