Since we don't have games this weekend, I thought it would be fun to toss around some of the best games we have seen this season

Here are a couple that stood out to me:

Mater Dei vs. St. Mary's-Stockton in Hawaii

Cardinal Newman at St. Mary's-Stockton Open Division

McClatchy at Laguna Creek (first meeting won by Laguna Creek)

Bishop O'Dowd vs Salesian for D1 NorCal Region

Mitty vs Miami Country Day at TOC

Mitty vs SJND for the Open NorCal Region.

I liked the time we beat O'Dowd. When we lost to them, it wasn't nearly as much fun.

You guys had some big victories this year no doubt. I wasn't able to catch any but best believe NorCal basketball was aware.

I saw several well played, competitive games this past season, but the game that sticks out in my mind is the NCS D1 championship game between San Ramon Valley and San Leandro. It was promising to be a very close game with San Leandro on a roll after beating Mission San Jose and American (the #1 seed) pretty convincingly. Also, San Leandro's post player promised to be a tough match up for SRV with no bigs of its own and not a great history defending against them.

But SRV came in with a strong game plan and executed it very well. On offense, use greater mobility to create and nail outside shots (14 three pointers made in the game, including 8 representing their first 24 points). On defense, double down on the post and force SL to make their own outside shots.

The result was not close so the game wasn't exciting from that standpoint. But it was a great example of a well crafted basketball game. SL is talented and I am sure a re-match would have shown some interesting adjustments. But that particular evening SRV was firing on all cylinders.

Except for the Clovis North/Mitty game and the CN/Spanish Springs game at the WCJ I thought all the Platinum games were very good.

The CN/SMS Open game was excellent also.

And I'd give an undercover vote for the couple of games Swett had to finish up games with 4 players and still found a way to win. I saw the Berkeley game and it was cool to see it play out.
