Best team in Redwood Empire...

No way, Analy would get ran by Campolindo and I think Rancho would edge Analy. We will see how playoffs scenarios start to play out in a few weeks

Ranchos run D is soft as wet toilet paper. Even their own AD said their defense isnt very good. They've been exposed the last two weeks and teams are goingbto run it down their throat. They could end up with 3 league losses and get boatraced out of the playoffs. Their only hope is to outscore their opponents. I don't know about Analy. They dont play anyone.

Analy is kind of like the Cleveland Cavaliers. Claim to be the best, but don't play anybody.

The good news is for them, they will be nice and rested before they play anybody, while their opponent will likely be worn down from a long season.

Guru, the PD is notoriously bias towards Newman and Monty. I am surprised they gave Analy that type of ink........
G61...

It depends what sports you are talking about. CN Football and basketball(boys) NO DOUBT get love by the PD.
Monty basketball gets love for sure. But CN girls basketball gets very little coverage...unless they lose...quite the opposite of the boys.
But there are a ton of "other" sports that the PD covers and writes big articles about that CN and Monty don't get any love....and that's OK because those 2 schools aren't good at those sports. Cross country, golf, tennis, soccer, water polo and more have been covered with big full page articles by the PD prep sports.
Now granted football and boys basketball are the "glory" sports, so during those seasons it may seem that Monty and CN get preferential treatment.
Seriously though SHOULDNT the BEST teams get the lions share of the coverage? And for the past few years Monty and CN basketball have been the best in boys and Rancho Cotate, CN and Analy have been the best in football, so they should get more coverage.

Just my thoughts :)

I agree. I was just wondering what you thought of the coverage.

I read the PD and I just have not seen any particular bias against CN or Monty at all. Frankly other than hoops and the girls soccer rivalry there's not a to write about at Monty the past couple of years. I think they bend over backwards to give some attention to schools like Elsie and Piner, as well as Santa Rosa. They have a large population to serve and most readers went to or have kids at the publics, not at Newman. They do try to look at lots of sports. Nice piece up right now about an outstanding cross country runner from Rosa, and a water polo player from Newman. The accusation that Benefield is a "feel good" writer is true. That staff was decimated during the digital revolution a few years back, and most of the writers left do multiple beats. Not many are pure sports people. But that's not always bad. The 'feel good' reporting on stories like the Middletown football team and the El Molino team's efforts to help their rival get past the Valley Fire is great stuff.

Look at the positive side. At least Lowell Cohn isn't writing the high school stuff...

You would really be in trouble then....

LMAO...so true G61..haha. Keep his venom on Kaep and Tomsula please.

And Quaffer I think there is a definite place for feel good stories in the HS sports page. Middletown football and El Mo's efforts are 2 great examples. And I wasn't accusing Benefield of anything...lol... I was just merely pointing it out. :)

I just don't get how you can be a local writer and constantly bash your home team?

How does that dude have a job!?

That'd be like me being a writer for Folsom and constantly writing negative articles about them. I would be fired immediately! LOL

Two jobs! Don't forget that his kid's on the payroll. But I don't mind him bashing the 49ers. They deserve it I just don't think he's a very good writer. He can only string one sentence together at a time, and he finds a way for everything to be about him. He reminds me of Maureen Dowd, and not in a good way.

Ya I saw his son was at the PD as well. His son pretty much echos his dad's sentiments. Pretty sad.

I don't like where the 49ers are right now either. But, as a hometown writer, there is no need for the constant negative articles before and after every game. Just uncalled for.

Analy was given a gift last night in their victory over Petaluma. The receiver was down at about the 1 yard line. Best team in the Redwood Empire has to go to Newman.

That play by Analy was incredible. But lets get serious. Newman rolls that team. Petaluma is an average team in any league at best. Not taking anything away from Analy because a win is a win. They should make some noise in a watered down D3.

The Newman homers on this board are constantly bashing Analy yet there's not been a single post from anyone hyping Analy, claiming they are #1 or saying they would roll Newman. It's all one way.

Styles make match ups. Analy, Newman and Rancho match up well with each other this year. Petaluma is a big physical football team that's peaking at the end of the year. They are a tough matchup for spread teams who don't practice against the veer.

If you don't think Petaluma would give Newman all they could handle right now you're mistaken.

I think Petaluma matches up well with Rancho and Analy. They are speed teams more or less. Newman tries to rough you up. St Marys (Stockton) has nice size and Newman went toe to toe with them.

Agree, I don't think T boys match up well with Newman.

Does Petaluma playing so tightly with Analy affect their playoff seeding from 7/8 to maybe 5:4?

Not sure but we find out tomorrow. I think they have a strong argument for a higher seeding. It will be interesting how it shakes out. I think the D4 teams have to worry more about seeding than 3. In 3 as long as you avoid Campo early and get a good style matchup it should be good no matter what seed. I guess seed has home field implications. 4 you might have a road game in Oregon with a bad seed.

I wonder with Marin Catholic losing their by far most explosive player/quarterback if that affects their seeding ? Or they still get a top 2 seed? They don't have the playmakers now without him to win D4, defense will still keep them every game

That's what you said the last time Newman and Analy played. How'd that work out?

Cmon Agap....you cant use that argument.

different year, different teams...

2 yrs ago the 49ers would have whooped up most of the NFL...how they doing this year?

***Rumor has it that CN trying to set up home and home with analy over the next 2 years....yes please :)

That would be a better first game than Del Norte. Hope they still go out of section for the other two games, or at least keep Clayton Valley. With CN returning both Wallace and Brookshire next year, and an undefeated JV team coming up, they should have a good year coming (at least on paper).
Sorry to hear about MC QB. That's a bummer for everyone.

I would give newman the #2 seed as well. They were about 2 inches away from the #1 seed if Brookshire scores against St Mary's (stockton). That would have been a very good win against a strong program. Bummer about MC kid. I never like to hear about any kids getting hurt especially there star. I'm not counting them out. Good programs always seem to find ways to win. Should be fun. Yeah, Newman looks loaded next year considering what they have coming back and the success at Frosh/JV level.

MC should get the one seed and CN should get the 2. I had CN a slight favorite to win D4 over MC. Now with Peterson injured (you have to feel bad for the kid and their team) I think CN is a heavy favorite.

I'm interested to see where Fortuna is going to be seeded. There are going to be a couple of pissed off teams that get the long road trip North. I wouldn't be surprised if Fortuna received the three seed, and they put Fort Bragg at 6th for a potential 2nd round matchup to minimize the drive, although it's still three hours from Ft Bragg.

I think almost everyone(Petaluma) in the Redwood empire is hoping for a semifinal between Rancho and Analy. I think Rancho had a shot at the #2 seed had it not been for the loss to Carrillo. D3 goes 1. Campo, 2. Analy, 3. Rancho a No Brainer for the top 3.
