Bishop O'Dowd-St Mary's

14-14 at halftime. Good back and forth action in a rivalry game, but second quarter got a little sloppy. St Marys is well coached under Keith Minor, but holding up against a bigger and deeper Dragons team is the question in the second half.

Eifler is still out after getting hurt in August. Went through warm ups but hasn't been in during the game.

Dragons could be primed for good year next season. Leading runner is a freshman and only one senior on the line. Alijah Tucker, the junior LT, has looked very good.

Yeah, SMB only has about 29 players . Hope they can hold on

25-14 win for St Marys. Dominant defensive effort. Keith Minor said it has been about 20 years since SMB won at O'Dowd.

Now that I'm back home, a couple more notes:

Really impressed with Keith Minor and his staff. Don't make a lot of mistakes, trust their system and guys buy in. They have done a great job rebuilding this program.

St. Mary's QB Ryan Jenkins, also a good baseball player, has good velocity on his ball. He fit one in a tight window for a touchdown to make it 14-14 before the half.

They don't pound it with Tamarick Pierce, but he finished with 21 touches for 157 total yards and two touchdowns. He is a physical runner with some speed who also starts at linebacker. Good player.

O'Dowd was still without Camilo Eifler, who was hurt during fall practice.

They are young at key spots, but every year Bishop O'Dowd seems to under perform. They just can't find the right formula to have a winner with their resources. Interesting situation.

Rivalry games are good for the sport and it was a good atmosphere in Oakland on Friday.

cant always be next season for odowd...they have a talented team and a strong senior class. They are under achieving again. Best thing that has happened is CN and MC declared D4 but Campo still owns D3

Nice win for St. Mary's. They seem tie be bouncing back after 2 early losses.Would like to see them get a rematch with Moreau in the playoffs.SMB is a better program than people think and it s because of Coach Minor and staff.

Looking forward to the revival of the Riordan-St Mary's series next Saturday. Great road win against BOD.

Moreau seems to be getting better, 3 blowout wins after St Marys including very good Piedmont team. Not sure they want to see Moreau again

With Marin Catholic and Cardinal Newman moving to Div. 4, I think a Moreau rematch is not only unlikely, but the least of St. Mary's concerns. That looks to be a loaded division come playoff time...

Well Moreau may be improving, and they are definitely better this year, but SMB beat them badly twice last year, including scoring 61 points on them in the playoffs.Im sure they didn't expect what they got from Moreau in the opener. Point is, they won't be ambushed again in a rematch, though they still may lose. And yes, with CN and MC moving to D4 it may be a moot point.

Don't know if ODowd is underachieving . They just lost in the last 6 seconds to Will C Wood last week. Wood is undefeated and highly regarded in the SJS D3.Nobody regarded that loss as underachieving on ODowds part. Now,1 week later St. Mary's comes to ODowd and wins a solid 25-14 victory and now ODowd is an "underachiever".Theyve been like 5-5 and maybe 4-6 the last 2 seasons.SM beat them 28-14 last year. The days of Coach Perenon are gone.
