Week 5 Scores

Burford didn't get 200 yards rushing. But scored 2TD rushing 1 receiving. And one fumble recovery 30 yards. And he probably has 10 unassisted tackles. A couple of sacks.

I got lucky and went to one of the better games of the night. Jesuit vs Granite Bay under light in Carmichael. New stadium and lights are fantastic and atmosphere was awesome. Totally different feel. As for the game. Granite Bay prevailed 30-17 but it was closer than score indicated. 2 key turning points. In first have Jesuit was down 14-10 in 2nd and Rios throws a pick 6. Ouch... Jesuit goes down 21-10. Then late in the 4th Jesuit is down 24-17 and has the ball on the GB 1 yard line and GB comes up with a goal line stand for ages. GB scored late on a miffed punt TO by Jesuit. Excellent game overall and GB is a tough team. #1 Isaiah Ene for GB might be the best all around player in Sacramento this year. He was amazing. Jesuit had no answers for him. Not sure many teams will.

rancho cotate 37 freedom 0.

on freedoms home coming.

what in the world is happening at freedom? this should not be happening.

someone please explain what is happening that a team with that talent is 0-4 and getting running clocked by a below average team. please make it make sense

What is going on with Casa Grande, not playing solid games became a monster to San Marin loosing 39-37 , just shows that any thing can and will happen.
Casa Grande has been up and down since for at least a decade. Prior to that they had a decade of being a top caliber team north of the golden gate.

One of the few publics in Sonoma Co. with a wealthier/mix socioeconomic student enrollment and 3 levels of football. Marin/SF families moving in to the area. They should be good.

Other notes that I know people are talking about .... My Cardinal Newman squad looks pretty good.
Beating the life out of ODOWD 56-0 was a big statement. This is coming off a dominant 28-10 win over a solid Vacaville team who nearly beat Granite Bay earlier in the year. This will be a team that has legit bowl aspirations. A few key players you will be reading about.

QB Tino Retamoza 6"2 210 Freshman. Dad was a stud for newman back in the day. This kid will be a terror.
WR/DB- Zion Cargill- 6"0 175 Soph- Athletic WR/DB. Sister was a stud hooper for CN a few years back and played in college.
RB- Jamari Gentry 5"11 175 - SR. - Kid might have some of the best stats in norcal this year at RB. Averaging over 25 yards a carry.
DE Jesse Myers 6"3 255 SR Oregon State Committ a monster all over.
DT/T Kahlio Vaetoe 6"4 290 Soph - Will be a power 5 recruit.

Right now my top 4 NCS
DLS
Pitt (Pitt might be a lot closer to DLS than we think or better)
San Ramon Valley

If Ene was bigger he would be a 4-5 star. In his youth he played for the OG Ducks in SoCal, one of the top teams in the country. He’s a hell of a player but will get held back by his height imo.

Without a doubt. Go watch these so called 4 and 5 star kids and ENE at the HS level and tell me who does more for there teams.
I would be hard pressed to find a better all around HS player. He should land at a Wazzu type and do just fine.

Yeah DLS was lucky their defense had zero left in their tank in the 4th qtr, they were running at 60% and SM WRs were still flying around out there

The question is if CN runs the table (as it looks like a distinct possibility, can they be put into the Open/D1 division for NCS? I would doubt it, but isn’t that what an Open Division is for? I know, this one was created so that runner ups to DLS can get to NorCal/state games.

Yeah if they are a legit top 4 team in NCS I don't see how they wouldn't be put in the NCS Open/D1 at end of year. Lots of football to be played and Pleasant Valley, Windsor, and MC will all be challenging games. But right now Newman seems to be seperating themselves a little. If they get pulled into Open and win a game or 2 but don't prevail in the lower bracket are they done for season? I guess that is the big ? I have.

My guess is that should they get pulled up, they’d likely be the 3rd or 4th seed, and be on the other side of the bracket than DLS. They’d have to win that bracket and then beat whoever the 2 seed was that loses to DLS in order to advance. So likely they’d have to beat both SRV & Pitt. A tall order, but you never know. For their sake, they’re better off not making the Open.

how about we pump the breaks on new man until they beat someone with a pile. they won’t be put in the open because there are many teams that are more gooder then they are.

in no particular order

de la salle

pittsburg

el cerrito (guarantee they would beat new man head to head)

san ramon valley

marine catholic (will beat them head to head mark my words)

california

acalanes

las lomas (don’t believe me watch there qb he’s the next superstar bay area qb)

windsor (completely unstoppable run game)

and that’s just off the top of my head. teams like liberty and clayton valley might be better too though i would also hold off on them until they beat a real team. gotta to have a consistent “standard”

Long season so we shall see. I think if they get by Windsor in a couple of weeks they will run the table. Windsor is the best team on there schedule. Marin Catholic lost a lot and is rebuilding some. They aren't chopped liver but not what they've ben the last 5+ years. The windsor/Newman game is for the champ. Windsor will have the best player on the field (Anderson) but Newman Line/D will be better and they finally have a QB. And Windsor has played absolutely nobody. They scheduled way down this year so hard to say how good they are. (Analy, Hayward, Dublin, Eureka, Campo) Campo is historically good but not this year. The rest of those teams are really bad.

Yeah Don’t tell Kiddman, but Campo lost to EC last night 49-0. I can’t recall a Campo team ever losing like that.

@bearphan MC offensive line is so bad and Caden lack of mobility makes watching these games painful, it’s like watching Jimmy G back there under pressure…….even Tam is having their way with MC up front and Caden is the least mobile QB I have ever witnessed at MC

The few times he has time to throw he does throw a nice deep ball

poor line play has been a huge issue at marine catholic for years, charles williams and mobile qb’s like cook covered it up and let them get away with it. at this point it’s pretty clear it’s a coaching issue

moayed has had a great run but the attention to detail needs to get cleaned up immediately. if I was marine catholic after this season I would ask paul cronin to name his price and whatever he said I would pay it. he would clean it up and have marine in the open division his first year.

Holy crap Newman is going to be a problem, that QB is a freshman ? That RB is 6’5 280 and runs a 4.7?
He also plays Dline...I happened to be watching him on 1 play in the 2nd quarter. Playing nosetackle he bull rushed and got TRIPLE TEAMED... center and BOTH guards and blew all 3 back for the sack.

He's projected to grow to 6'6..he's only a sophomore now. If he's stays healthy he's a Power 5 guy.

There's a LOONNNNG way to go this season obviously.

AND...

CN has yet to beat Windsor or MC in the Sanchez era...but DAMN this team looks REALLY good..

The frosh QB LT is the real deal and makes a HUGE difference on the offense. He's a college QB...

Another interesting tidbit...only Gentry the rb is a senior..the rest of the skill positions are returning.

If CN was to run the table and win league..I think they are an Open team despite being at the D6 level.

He was on 1 of the big 7 on 7 teams playing on the west coast in 8th grade (playing TE) and Bosco offered him full tuition, housing and meal $$$ to move down there and go to school.

Parents didn't want to move and send him...

We are definitely privileged to have him at CN.
if true that kids parents fumbled the bag epic lee. if he was at bosco he would be worth millions in nil money by the time he committed to a college

I disagree…sorta. CN is that good. I’ve played/watched a ton of football and these guys are real. My grandson is a sophomore/starting DT at BOD and he held his own out there, but he said these are some of the best guys he’s played against…ever. He’s been playing high level football for 10 years.

These CN young men have been playing together for years. I remember several of them from the Redwood PAL Golden Bears youth football league. They’ve been beating the brakes off of teams for a while.

They remind me of the mid-80s Skyline High School squads that had Brian Johnson (Stanford/Detroit Tigers) at QB. Simple plays but great execution, big active line, speed at the skilled positions, and a few D1 guys. The OAL didn’t go to the NCS playoffs back then at the end of the season. But their ‘84 squad beat DLS and went undefeated.

They are def an Open team in NCS, unfortunately. This is where I agree with you. I don’t think they can compete vs a DLS, SRV, Pitt (or a SM Rams, Serra, St. Francis, etc.).

I disagree with the rest of your list. They are going to beat MC this year. They should beat Windsor. But Las Lomas (that was random) and Acalanes? No match.

I have a ton of family and friends at EC. A game against them or Cal would be interesting.

Yeah, I think they opened up some eyes. Like @northbaybbguru said... Sanchez has never had a great QB. Cronin had D1 Qb's for about a decade in a row. It has been the tougher position to fill at newman but Sanchez has one now. Newman's biggest weakness is there overall roster size. These true Open and D1 schools go 50-55+ and the backup kids are very good. Newman is thin just a function of there school size. They probably have 35-37 on roster with lots of 2 way guys. Newman's best teams always could play with St Mary's of Stockton. In fact I recall newman great Jordan Brookshire getting stopped on a goal line stand by rams at Newman to end the game. I have no doubt Newman can play with St Mary's. DLS and Pitt would be a very tall order but St Mary's nearly knocked off DLS..... Lots of season left and we still need to get by a few good schools. Pleasant Valley of Chico will be good. I'm not looking past them but overall outlook is bright.

Pleasant Valley ain’t that good, they got smacked by an okay Spanish Springs team and have a rating of 8.8 that’s not a big challenge, they will beat PV by 20+ on a bad day

I could be shorting them. Again, they are very good. Maybe they can hang with the top NorCal programs this season. Spoke with a few of their parents and backers. They all said “this is their year.”

newman cannot beat anyone that outclasses them in the speed department. almost every team i mentioned qualifies in this category. the other teams i mentioned are teams that can/would/will beat new man at there own game. i do not mean this as disrespect towards how good they are…..for a d 4 team.

what i will disrespect them for however is allowing that flagrantly racist coach to continue on in employment after he got exposed. and not only that, they even went so far as to punish the people who blowed the whistle. shows that they are completely devoid of morals and class as a program and as an institution.

ncs needs to do the right thing step in and either ban new man from playoff competition until they clean it up or just make them play de la salle in the first round every year with no loser plays on so they can just be cannon fodder. programs like that should not have the opporunity to represent ncs at the state level.

but then again this is the bay area. schools and coaches can treat people as racist as they want with zero consequences for anyone other than the people who blow the whistle. i could name ten other schools that do the same thing.
