Cal Bears & Lack of Local Recruiting

Lurker- I think you know they are going after the top local guys. Let's face it- they have to win to get those guys. Until then, don't recruit average local guys just because they are local. Use your national connections and keep mining the local recruits to get the best.

I can't see why Cal would come and get Caleb Colaman two years ago but didn't even bother to offer:

Ron Smith, Ben Schrider or Aaron Mercadel this year...

Talk about being right in their backyard and from the same program as Coleman.

SMH...

One big thing we are all forgetting to mention is the academic load at Cal. Can't compare to some of the other PAC 12 schools. I am a huge PAC 12 fan but lets be honest, its not that difficult academically to get into many of them and make it through. Cal is tough and many kids just can't handle that part of it. I would agree that keeping talent locally is important and creating relationships with the Nor Cal area is a must.

The SMB kids would have gotten into Cal if offered...

And since we are talking on the subject, just look at San Jose State's LACK of east Bay kids on their roster. Sheesh.

Been like that for years... SMH

I think Dom Fredrickson from Freedom and Cameron Burston from Hayward may be the only east bay recruits committed to SJSU? Very few east bay guys offered.
