We all know that coaching is as competitive as playing, and finding an edge for the upcoming season can be the difference between postseason success and unhappy parents – so Hoops4Girls will bring a group of top college and high school coaches to Miramonte High to help you and your team get ready for the 2018-19 season. Some of the coaches who will be there on September 30 are:

Lindsay Gottlieb, University of California

Gottlieb enters her eighth season as Cal’s head coach, after a successful stint at UC Santa Barbara, and she took the Bears to the Final Four in 2013. Since then, Cal has become a perennial Pac-12 power, and has reached the NCAA tournament six out of the past seven seasons. Gottlieb has had four players selected in the WNBA draft, and Kristen Anigwe will undoubtedly be the fifth when the 2019 draft rolls around.

Charli Turner Thorne, Arizona State University

In her 22 years at Arizona State, Turner Thorne has taken the Sun Devils to the NCAA tournament 18 times – missing only once in the past 19 seasons – and has amassed the second most wins in Pac-12 history. She played for Tara VanDerveer (no. 1 on the wins list) at Stanford, and also coached at Northern Arizona. She was Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2016 and has taken Arizona State to the Elite Eight twice.

Mark Trakh, University of Southern California

Trakh understands the game from the bottom up, as he earned his stripes by coaching Brea Olinda for 13 seasons and winning four California state titles. Since then, he has been successful at Pepperdine, New Mexico State and USC. He was won more than 400 college games, made eight trips to the NCAA Tournament, won seven regular-season championships, and been named conference Coach of the Year five times.

Doc Scheppler, Pinewood School

Besides winning six CIF state championships in eight title game appearances, including a runner-up finish this past season in the Open Division, Scheppler is generally regarded as the top shooting coach on the West Coast and one of the best in the nation. His current star, Stanford-committed incoming senior Hannah Jump, has made over 100 three-point shots the past two seasons and is on a pace to become one of California’s all-time leaders.

We will also have many other head and college assistant coaches on hand.

The clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., which means there’s a full day of information and insight that will make your team and your program better.

The cost is $99 for each head coach, plus $49 each for up to three assistants, so the entire staff will not only get to benefit from the clinic, but will also all be on the same page when the season starts.
