Campo at College Park - A Battle for First Place!

First place in league at stake... Campo at 7-0 and College Park at 6-1.

Dunno what any tiebreaker setup is in this league, but hopefully my Cougars will get the job done tonight and make that unnecessary...

Overall records, Cougs at 16-5 and CP at 18-3. Cougs have played a tougher overall schedule, and had top players out for two of their losses...

When these two met at Campo, the Cougs won 71-67 after a slow start. Could be even tougher here in Pleasant Hill... 6 minutes til tip.

Well.... THIS is going nicely... 17-2 Cougs with 2:55 left in the 1st.

End of one... Campo played an almost perfect quarter... They lead 26-7.

Add that to their final quarter Friday and they’ve whipped their opponents 44-8!

CP finally getting some offense going, but they seem unable to slow down the Cougs... 37-19. 1:30 left in the half.

And at the half, it’s Campo in front 39-21.

Of course, we have to remember that CP led at the half in Moraga a couple weeks ago.... looking it up...

Found it... CP led at the half 42-32 at Moraga... so not quite as big a lead...

CP not going down without a fight... getting a few things to work... Campo calls time after a score to make it45-29.

48-44 now... Cougs trying to hang in... 49 secs left in3rd... Aidan scores with a runner... 50/44... CP fouled, at line... makes both...50-46... and quarter ends. Classic brewing!

Aidan tries to get off a 3... SWATTED! CP fouled, at line, MISSES... Matt Radell fouled on rebound... ref decides to STOP the ft (which he made) because the CP rooting section is making the SAME NOISE THEY’VE BEEN MAKING ALL GAME.... Of course, he misses the one that counts... but made the next one... Campo somehow gets another chance and makes one FT... Tied at 57.... FREE BASKETBALL!!

And the lights go out... second time in the game... momentary delay, CP’s #0 drives, scores, foul, sinks ft... then they get it back and score again... CP up 62-59 with 1:39 left.

That was a heck of a game. Down 26-4, things looked bleak for the Falcons, but they continually fought back against all odds to force OT. Campo uncharacteristically missed about 10-12 free throws in the 2nd half in front of a raucous Falcon student section, aiding in the comeback. Both teams had opportunities late, but Campo was able to pull it out. Zion Pullin was the star for CP, scoring probably 30 or more. The Mahaney brothers picked up the slack after Ahazie fouled out. Great game.
