Campo Hosts CVC…

Campo’s gym is nearly empty with the Covid protocols in place, and I am watching on NFHS. Excellent feed for that service, and with announcers and all rather than the “security-cam” setup seen in many places.

Looks like both teams are at least close to full strength. Not really that sure about CVC, but Campo has all their starters, includig the return of Matt Radell and Logan Robeson. Cougs are 9-1, CVC is 9-5 after their somewhat surprising loss Tuesday to Northgate.

Steal by Radell…. Another inside try, no go this time. So, he plays the defensive end… Rebound and fouled…

Cougs unable to score, but CVC answers with a Zimmer bucket…. Long Mahaney pass to O’Reilly for 2…. Time out. 4-2 Cougs, 6:09 left in the 1st.

GREAT move by Cade Bennett off a Mahaney pass, 6-2 Cougs.

Radell goes to the floor and forces a held ball, but CVC gets it…

Dargan spins, shot… Mahaney SWATS it away!

Radell grabs a board, Bennett passes to Nafziger… BAM for 3! 9-2.

Mahaney rebounds a miss…

King fouled, to the line for CVC. FT’s split.

Robeson makes his first appearance of the season…

CVC gets a stop…

1:50 left. Dargan try, no go…. Mahaney with the board. Pass to Robeson, 3 try… BAM!! 14-3.

And Bennett takes a charge!

Cougs ball…. Mahaney takes a long bomb against the shot clock… the bank is OPEN!! 17-3, but CVC matches it with one of their own…. and that’s the quarter, 17-6 Cougs.

O;Reilly misses a 3, Radell rebounds, O’Reilly again…. BAM! 20-3, but King answers. 20-9.

Another Radell-to-O’Reilly play… for 3. 23-9. Cougs get the stop…. Offensive foul on Radell, illegal creen I guess….

King drives down the edge of the lane, scores, is fouled…. FT is good. 23-12.

Bennett shoots a 3 off a Mahaney pass…. BAM! 26-12, time out CVC. 4:45 left in the half.

Three rebounds later, King scores for CVC. 26-14. You don’t see the Cougs give up offensive boards often…

Aidan assist to O’Reilly…. 28-14.

Another Coug stop… CVC is looking pretty frustrated.

King nails another 3…. 28-17.

Incredible Mahaney pass to Vineyard for an easy one…. 30-17. Bamberger heard from with a 3. 30-20. And that’s the half. King has 12 of CVC’s 20, Dargan zero. Hard to believe Dargan won’t get untracked in the 2nd half, even though Aidan has been draped all over him.

First play of the 2nd haf, CVC runs a clear-out for Dargan, a great idea. He makes a few moves, then scores. 30-22. CVC gets a stop, inside to King for a score…. 30-24.

Aidan nails a 3! 33-24.

6:15 left 3rd…. King drives, but O’Reilly knocks it away, still CVC ball.

Tech difficulties, err fat fingers on my part…. but. Campo now leads 37-37 after a Dargan 3. 4:10 left…

GREAT Bennett pass to Aidan for a bucket…. 39-27. 2:45 left.

Robeson banks home a 3! 44-27 to end the quarter.

King puts one back in. 44-29.

Eagles get it back, Zimmer drives for a score, fouled by Robeson. FT missed, 44-31.

Eagles get another stop, geta pair of Coug fouls…. but no points…. Mahaney move too good, he’s called for the walk.

4:47 left. 44-31.

Dargan drive, he’s fouled on the try, FT’s good. 44-33.

Mahaney travels trying to fake out Dargan.

Dargan spinning shot falls out, but King grabs it and puts it back in…. 44-35, CVC time out. 3:17 left.

Long Aidan shot at the shotclock buzzer, no go…. CVC rebound, Furtado hits a 3! 44-38. 2:04 left, CVC gets it back after a Bennett airball.

But CVC throws a pass away…. Cougs ball.

Mahaney dribbles against Dargan, near the end of the shot clock… twisting floater is GOOD! 46-38, 1:15 left.

Mahaney has 12, same for O’Reilly.

Pass down low to King for a bucket…. 46-40. CVC trying to foul, but they have a buttload to give…. Now 47.7 left…

Cougs manage to run a good few seconds off playing keepaway, but Bennett goes to the line with 36.3 left. Front end rattle home…. 2nd missed. 47-40…. A couple wild tries, King gets to the FT line after a rebound. Both FT’s good. 47-42, 21.8 left, Cougs ball.

Aidan fouled, bonus…. 1 and 1. Aidan nails the first, and the 2nd. 49-42, 20.2 left…. Time out CVC. King fires a 3… GOOD! 49-45, King has 26. 13.4 left, Cougs ball.

Pass in to Bennett, he’s grabbed right away. 1 and 1…. MISSES the front end! CVC races downcourt and Aidan STEALS IT AWAY! Gets it to O’Reilly, foul…. makes the first,misses the 2nd, clock runs down…. 50-45 final, Cougs win!
