That’s Miramonte’s gym…. One of my favorites around here.

On the floor right now, the frosh game is in mid-first quarter. Mats lead 5-4, but a Coug is at the FT line. And now it’s 5-all.

Last time these two freshman teams met, the Cougs came away with a 41-31 win.

Last time the Cougs met Miramonte, the Cougs won 55-39.

Cougs fell behind by 8 before a strong 12-2 run…. But MM had the last laugh with a putback at the buzzer to tie it at 26.

The #7 (in CA according to MaxPreps) Cougs bring in a record of 24-1.

Mats are ranked #42 in CA by Maxpreps and hold a 22-3 record.

The Cougs cliched the league title last night, but I doubt it matter to these kids on either side. The Rivalry very *much* does, however…. And there is the issue of playoff seedings.

IMHO, the Cougs will have the #1 seed in NCS Open should they get this win tonight…

For Miramonte, this would be a huge signature win that would almost certainly get them into NCS Open, too. Heck, they have a shot at getting inot the Open bracket even if they don’t pull this win off…

But the deal is…

Couple empty possessions later, still 10-5, MM ball, 3:10 left. Radell with a GREAT swat, but he lands out of bounds.

Another stop, and idan scores…. Suddenly, it’s Cougs by 8.

And MM’s Dutto charges!

MM steal…. and they score on a putback. 29-23.

Aidan rebound…. holding it for one shot, but he siezes an opportunity, drives and scores!

MM unable to score before the buzzer…

O’Reilly rebounds a miss, pass to Aidan who sinks a J… 34-26.

Radell snags a board, passes to Aidan who…. Does what he does. Great driving score…. But MM gets a bucket…. 38-30.

Then Aidan hits one in the paint…. 50-39.

Cougs get a stop, Aidan relocates for a 3 with 3 seconds left in the 3rd…. fouled!

3 shots…. Bingo, bango, bongo.

All good…. MM gets a long shot off at the buzzer…. No go.

Cougs up 53-39 after 3.

Cougs get it down to Yasukochi past half court, he is fouled…. FT’ missed. MM rebound,, a quick score, way too late.

COUGS win, 62-57. Quite a ball game….

One of Mahaney's best games so far this year. Got to remember he's still getting back up to speed from the injuries over the last couple years.

Especially impressed that Campo got it done without Robeson. Really thought he was needed to match up with Miramonte.

Whereas the first game was closer than the nine-point final margin, this one wasn't as close as the five-point margin suggested.
