Any truth to the rumor that Cardinal Newman will have 3 varsity basketball teams next year? My son is a junior at Newman and did not play this season but had his mind set on playing next season. He heard today from a classmate that there will be 3 Varsity Teams. Is that even possible?

I also heard this, I'm sure @northbaybbguru can confirm they decided to diversify. 1 is in the "villes" conference, 1 in the "lakes" conference, and 1 in the same conference as Averroes High...

UY - Is Montgomery considering joining the Big 5 conference. I see they played Eureka, Fortuna, McKinleyville and Arcata last year, add in Petaluma twice. Glass houses seem plentiful.

Oh hey what's up @winetot you know that was solid! I imagine @northbaybbguru at least got a chuckle out of it! Glass houses LOL! The Big 5! Now that's funny! This is some high quality material! Might be my favorite thread all year, maybe. #sixtytwotoseven

Believe me, Coach has still never heard the end of that one from me. I told him to figure out a 7 team bracket or open with someone else. I never have disagreed with any of you in regard to his schedule. I do know that the NBL standings, since the prodigy arrived, have Montgomery 3rd in 15-16 and 2nd in 16-17 behind Cardinal Newman(and all their pre-season lakes, valleys and villes) both years. #3rdand2ndaintbad

For as bad a Newman's preseason was they ended playing really good ball during the post season starting with the NBL tourney and really had only one blunder against Tam who proved to be better than their record as evidenced by there tough 6 pt loss to Moreau in NCS champ game. Newman ended up beating SJS D2 champs Whitney on the road, who was one of the better teams in all of the SJS this year regardless of division. They go down to Serra and throttle them at home. We all know how tough the WCAL is. Moreau was on fire against Newman and Milstead and Walker went nuts scoring 2/3rds of there total. Not many people could slow them down.

Would love to see coach schedule a tougher tourney or a few out of area games early on. A couple good losses against better competition isn't going to hurt you in the post season. But honestly moving to D2 this year and scheduling weak preseason didn't hurt them as much as many of us believed it would. Look where they ended up? They were a very good team in mid march when most teams were playing baseball. And if they stayed in D4 I think they would have got to the champ game against St Pats/Vincents and would have been a good 10-15 pt underdog. Not many people talk about St Pats but that was a heck of a team.

So in closing maybe the old coach aint so dumb after all....

LOL.....

that's some good spin LL33.....

they did lose in the 2nd round of NCS and their season was over. Until due to a 1 in a million scenario they got a second life in norcals.
And I agree....The way CN was playing at the end (after their resurrection from D2 basketball death) I personally think they would have had a heck of a chance to have played SP/SV in the D4 norcal finals if they had jut stayed at d4.

Trying to be nice..... But agree Guru. Newman was a solid team end of season and the Tam loss and a regroup by those kids did wonders.
Lets get in an out of town tourney or something. Or at least invite a few decent teams to Rose City.
