Fri, 09/09/16 - 7:00PM Away@ Pittsburg High School
Fri, 09/23/16 - 7:30PM Away@ Valley Christian High School

Sat, 10/29/16 - 1:00PM Home vs. Archbishop Riordan High School
Sat, 11/05/16 - 2:00PM Home vs. Bellarmine College Prep High School

The Pads have another tough schedule. Among the toughest of Northern CA teams. Will compete for WCAL title.

St Francis

8/26 - 7:30p Oak Grove (San Jose, CA)
9/2 - 7:30p @ Palma (Salinas, CA)
9/16 - 7:00p @ Atascadero (Atascadero, CA)
9/23 - 7:30p Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco, CA) @ Home
9/30 - 7:00p @ Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose, CA)
10/14 - 7:30p Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, CA) @ Home
10/21 - 7:00p @ Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (San Francisco, CA)
10/28 - 7:30p Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) @ Home
11/4 - 7:30p St. Ignatius (San Francisco, CA) @ Home

Oak Grove will have very strong running attack (very good RBs); Palma will be as strong or stronger than last season; Atascadero is a quality program. St Francis will compete for WCAL title. Decent non-league schedule.

Bellarmine

Nonleague
8/26 Menlo-Atherton (Atherton, CA) @Home
9/2 7:00p Clovis North (Fresno, CA) @ Home
9/9 - 7:00p Del Oro (Loomis, CA) @ Home

Bells will be good but losing lots of senior talent. Will still be very good. Some speed. Will be competitive but time will tell if they will challenge for WCAL title. Will be challenging nonleague with DelOro on schedule/

Valley Christian - San Jose

Nonleague
8/26 7:30p - Campolindo (Moraga, CA) @ Home
9/2 - 7:00p @ Wilcox (Santa Clara, CA)
9/9 - 7:30p @ Pleasant Valley (Chico, CA)

The Warriors have a tough Week zero. Not sure how PV will be next season. VC will be strong next season.

Mitty

Nonleague
8/26 - 7:00p @ Pittsburg (Pittsburg, CA)
9/2 - 7:30p Aptos (Aptos, CA) @Home
9/9 - 7:00p @ Palo Alto (Palo Alto, CA)

Open up with usually though Pitt. Aptos is very discipline but not as good as last season. Palo Alto has been down in recent years. Mitty will have very strong prototype QB and will be interesting if they change offense and open up more. Mitty is probably second tier WCAL next season though.

Sacred Heart Cathedral

Nonleague
8/26 - 7:00p @ Terra Nova (Pacifica, CA)
9/2 - 7:30p @ Justin-Siena (Napa, CA)
9/9 - 7:00p Menlo-Atherton (Atherton, CA) @Home

SHC has a good schedule for its enrollment size and past strength.

Will add others when nonleague schedules are available. St Ignatious has tough matchups with Campo and Marin Catholic. Riordan nonleague looks relatively weak so far but one to add could make it better.

On MaxPreps, Riordan lists Hillsdale at Hillsdale on Friday, August 26th at 7:00, SH Prep on Saturday, September 3 at CCSF at 2pm. and on Saturday, September 10th vs. St. Mary's (Albany) at Terra Nova at 5:00pm.

I can't wait to see how the rubbit 5's roll over the WCAL with their 1-9 JV's moving up and their new sophs coming in from their vaunted frosh team that gave up 429 points in 9 games last year. Don't forget their "superstar" transfer from a winless team ranked around 11,000 nationally. Riordan will own the cellar for years unless they close or drop football first.

In the MBL Gab - favorite

Palma plays
8/26 - 7:30p @ Sutter (Sutter, CA) ->should be formidable in D3
9/2 - 7:30p Saint Francis (Mountain View, CA) @Home - one of the top WCAL teams
9/10 7:30p Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton, CA) @ Home - down year but state bowl participant last seaspn
9/16 - 7:30p @ Aptos (Aptos, CA) - down from last season but well coached.

Overall Palma plays a decent schedule for smaller school and competing in Open Division playoffs strengthens overall schedule. Palma seniors is one of their strogest classes. In some areas (e.g., defense) they should be stronger than last season. They have one of the highest recriuited lineman in Northern CA (Dalman) and a D1 RB prospect and lots of speed at WR and RB. QB will be more mobile than last seasons (Stanford walk-on) and also a very strong accurate passer. They should compete in open Division playoffs. They return half their line from last season but need to reload a couple positions on o-line. Hollister will compete in the MBL Gab with very strong defense.

In DeAnza - top two projected

Los Gatos

8/26 - 7:00p Pioneer (San Jose, CA) @Home
9/2 - 7:00p Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, CA) @Home
9/9 - 7:00p San Benito (Hollister, CA) @Home
9/16 - 7:00p @ Menlo-Atherton (Atherton, CA)

Los Gatos should be competitive in the DeAnza and have lots of speed at QB and RB. Kyle Reid QB, former Bells QB, is fast and strong passer.

Milpitas
8/26 - 7:00p Homestead (Cupertino, CA)@Home
9/2 - 7:00p Antioch (Antioch, CA) @Home
9/9 - 7:30p @ North Salinas (Salinas, CA)
9/16 - 7:00p Salinas (Salinas, CA) @Home

A favorite in the DeAnza will be huge again on the lines and some speed at skill position. Game with Antioch should be fun to watch. They will need to score alot in that one to be in the game.

Compared to last season. They have a good system and are dedicated, but not the athletes from last season. Good QB and Wrs, but lose alot on line and a coiple stud skill players. They could lose 4 out of 5 early nonleague games with Salinas, Mitty Palma, Aragon and Capital Christian next season, but the Mariners should be battle tested for league and could make a run in lower division enrollment.

PV has really high expectations coming into this season. This is the best senior class they have had in many years and they put together a pre-season schedule that will test them from the start. They play at Del Oro, host VC, and play at Napa.

Norcalsportsfan, as always great insight. I believe the week 0 game with Sutter will be the true indication of where both of them will be this season. Sutter is loaded every where and has 8 returners on defense led by highly recruited LB/DL (offers from both Navy and Army already). This game could be decided in the trenches. Sutter has played in 3 of the last 4 regional games and are looking forward to getting over that darn hump. Looking forward to Palma coming to our country setting and battling in the HEAT!!!!!!!!

Thanks. I am looking forward to the game. Should be a good game. I will be trying to get up to it.. My nephew will be a senior on the team at slot and Corner. Palma's o-line should be pretty good. Dalman has 16 offers so far and their center is very strong with a couple other returners *starter and lots of playing time). Defense as far as line and the DBs, and LBs should be very good. D line returns Dalman and a couple other linemen. In general the line will have lots of experience but will see how hard they worked during off season and summer. The team in general will be stronger physically and faster than last season. RB Martinez did pretty well at the Openning and their other RB is a speedster. They will also have good receivers as well (one has some interest to play in college and the other to play defense at an IVY league school) . The skill positions will have lots of speed and athletic. They won't have a D1 QB (Stanford preferred walk-on) but in in some areas their QB is more accurate than last season's QB and he throws a nice ball and is mobile. Their running game should be very tough and they will have WRs that can spread the field and a QB that can make the throws. They should be all around pretty good on both sides of the ball including the kicking game. If Martinez stays healthy, he will be one of the top RBs in the section and he's stronger than last season. He averaged over 9 yards a carry last season (216 yards against Sutter) and Telford who only played the last few games of the season (due to injury) averaged almost 8 yards a carry (will probably play both RB and slot). I think the seniors as frosh and JV were among the top defenses for those classes at the school. The JV may have a freshman at RB that I hear could probably play on the varsity team and they seemed to have gotten better so will be interesting to see if the progressed given they were soundly defeated by Sutter as freshman. I'm sure Sutter varsity improved given their long run in playoffs and state and also the talented junior and senior classes and should be a challenge especially for first game.

The Bells vs Del Oro #2 looks to be a good game and should be a good indicator of how each teams season will go.

Agree about Bells and DelOro although Bells won't be as good as last season. Some speed and that offense can reduce scoring. I think DelOro will be favored in this one. WCAL will be a battle this year between Serra (really good classes in seniors and juniors and returning impact players and lines should be very good), SF (speed at skill and some core back in line, and inexperrnced QB got playing time in state and looks like will be a threat to run balanced SF offense) and VC (absolutely huge experienced line, returning all WCAL QB dual threat and speed and athletic skill players) and possibly Bells have some upside and could surprise (some speed and good core of players but may lack some in the trenches and new qbs will be good but last year's qb was special).

Don't sleep on the Bells' qb, Ogbogu. Very impressive running the Bell offense when Martig was out.
Looks like Riordan HC Fordon's DLS connection has the rebuilding Crusaders scrimmaging with the mighty Spartans 8/20. Certainly beats the likes of the AAA or CCS "B" teams.

I'm liking the FB posts I'm seeing already - some good info on many of the teams...

Sacred Heart Cathedral

SHC has a good schedule for its enrollment size and past strength.

For those who have made remarks about the Male-to-Female enrollment ratio at SHC, it's 49% male and 51% female which would be around 750 or so, each.

Are you saying SHC enrollment has increased by 200+ for this coming fall to 1,500? Impressive. Enrollment per the CCS CBEDs last year had SHC enrollment at 1,296.
http://static.psbin.com/y/1/aju63q1o01fxqg/2015-16_CBEDS_numeric_list.pdf

I received the Alumni magazine the other day and it clearly listed the enrollment as being 49% Male. I'm estimating the complete number of students since they have allowed larger freshman classes since 2014. They admitted 373 students for that class and I assume a similar number for 2015, so watch for the CBED numbers to increase.

Just heard from the Alumni Director. The current freshman class has 52% boys. The total number depending on transfers is a shade less than 1300.

Irish - typically the WCAL private schools have a high drop out rate per year and the graduating classes are nowhere near where they start out from frosh year. I'm guessing that unless you allow for that then your numbers might be high [ie: high tuitions, tougher classses & rules, better quality teams than publics - many of the bench warmers' decide to move to greener pastures at publics so they can play].

Do any of the LG backers know if the game against Corona del Mar is a home-and-home series? I live about 6 miles from CdM. I don't get to see many CCS teams play down here, but I try to make those games when they do happen.

Los Gatos schedule has it as home unless you see conflicting information. Not sure if home and home series. LG tends to play series versus one offers, but someone close to program may know,

Reached out to a father of a kid in the program and it is a home and home so Cal you have a game to go to next year

Is Corona del Mar very good?

CdM is a program that has been rising in the SS divisions. I think they were something like D-X when they beat SHP. Now they're D-4. They've been trying to schedule bigger schools recently and have had mixed results. Their enrollment is only about 1700, but the Newport Beach is a very affluent city (a little pretentious for my tastes). The school is only a few miles from multi-million dollar homes.

I was curious so I looked CDM up on Calpreps and they historically have been pretty close to LG. 5 year rating of 35.5 vs. 32.8 for LG. They haven't lost a league game since 2011. Either they are good or their league isn't. They have a 3.5 star QB committed to Cal. Looks like LG will have their hands full

Hey Norcalsportsfan any word on when where and who Palma is scrimmaging this year????

Palma scrimmages St Ignatius - WCAL in San Francisco on Sat Aug 20th at 1 pm (J B Murphy Field). The Wilcats travelled to Palma last season. JV are earlier. Does Sutter scrimmage River City HS?

Thanks. There should be some good teams at that jamboree. Sac High and Lincoln should have lots of speed. Not sure about Jesuit this year but have a big pool of talent to draw from.

Any thoughts on advantages and disadvantages of different scrimmage formats (scrimmage individual team versus participating in jamboree with several teams)? I like individual scrimmage because you can focus on getting certain things right it seems over a longer period, but jamboree you can go against variety of offenses and defenses. I guess optimally it would be good to go against a team that is similar to your next opponent, but also it seems it is good just to get some hitting and test where you are as far as prep for the season and get somewhat up to full play speed.

We will be facing veer a couple times this year so Jesuit will give us a real good look there. Sac high and Lincoln have become more athletic and tend to spread you out so that will give us a good look there also.
