California picked up a commitment from the No. 2 ranked rising senior in Northern California with Miramonte’s Mia Mastrov.
The 5-foot-11 guard is a do-everything type player. She is a very good perimeter defender who can match up against a variety of skill sets. She can handle it, be a playmaker off the bounce, get to the rim as a scorer and is a solid three point shooter. Mastrov plays with a high motor on both ends.
California is coming off a 12-19 season in the first season under head coach Charmin Smith. The Golden Bears have missed on many of the top regional prospects with just three signees from the past six classes (2015-2020). In Mastrov, they get one of the best players in NorCal who can fill a variety of roles and should produce throughout her career in Berkeley.
Mastrov, a three year varsity standout for the Matadors, averaged 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals as a junior. She was named the Contra Costa/Tri-Valley Player of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle and was a second-team, All-NorCal pick.
