Could DLS seek Elimination if “The Folsom Rule”?

Yep. What a bunch of losers for wanting their team to play against and beat the best or go home! True winners play where they win by 21+ and can get a trophy.

You don't get to play in a game you didn't earn.

Enjoy the game that you earned for a 3rd place team in NorCal. It's still great and super great for the kids.

Only losers beg to play in games they didn't earn.

What type of offense are they running now?
Spread, zone mostly, unfortunately they are 0-7 on the year with 52pts scored on the season.

Seems counterintuitive when you have great athletes but I often wonder what Grant would look like with a throwback offense like you used to see in wcal. Dbl wing, wing t, wishbone, veer, I formation. They always seem to have lineman...

You really need a competent QB in the system or someone with not only rare speed but elusiveness, but mainly a polished QB with a strong accurate arm who can go through reads. Those don’t grow on trees in HS.

With aggressive, big and physical lineman get those dudes moving! You don’t need to run those schemes like they did in the 70s-00s. You can use those concepts out of a gun and other sets. Clayton Valley does it, among others…

Grant has huge kids but many of them are simply overweigh now. There is a difference between being 6”3 230 and fast verse 6”2 320 and gassed by the 3rd. Size is very deceptive. I will take lighter and quicker all day. Sure you get a few freaks that are big and fast but it’s rare.

If you’re over 275-300 depending on your height in HS I agree that’s too much. You’re right many great HS teams are full of 6’2 240 with a few larger kids and even a solid 5’11 220 types that are strong and aggressive.

I’m assuming you think Rocklin is the second best team in NorCal and you maybe right. But as much as I hate saying it DLS is the best team in NorCal. Yes they did not earn it and I for one don’t want to see DLS in the open. But Serra, SF, or Rocklin lose by at least 35 to MD. DLS is the only team that has even a Remote chance at keeping it within 3 TD’s.

DLS is not the Ones who Wanted the Open Regional gone so the “Second Best” team in Nor Cal wouldn’t be eliminated from SBG’s….. That was Folsom and all the other Nor Cal Coaches who are Afraid to play DLS in a win or go home game with a SBG on the line…..

Does your 5 year Old Know That?…. 🤣
that really doesn't matter here.

the narrative i'm reading is:

DLS is likely out of the OPEN
DLS fans want them to be in the OPEN
Let's change the rules so DLS has a chance to play in the OPEN, after years of an autopass into the OPEN.

seems like spoiled child syndrome to me. and yes, you all are spoiled by DLS success... so this kind of makes sense I guess. Doesn't make it any less wrong.

The Highland/Grant game was much closer than the final score indicates....The Rams gave the Pacer all they could handle......Highlands had some dude named Taysom Hill...He was everrywhere

Here’s the down low. If we keep one team in the open then we can send them our number 2 team as well. Competitive Equity.

I Disagree…. DLS has no Desire to play in D1A…. This is the Perfect Time to try to have the Open Play in for Nor Cal Reinstated and get rid of the Folsom Rule…. DLS lost to a Nor Cal Team This year so the Nor Cal Coaches can no longer say “DLS is Unbeatable”.

The reason it won’t happen is because none of the other Nor Cal Coaches want this because no one wants to play DLS to go to a SBG…..

It’s going to be unfortunate for whoever has to play in the D1A play in game Because DLS isn’t losing another game this year….

DLS just beat a 6-0 League Rival with a running clock missing 30 players and The Top Player in Nor Cal…. No one in Nor Cal wants to play an elimination game against DLS…..
Agree with everything you said. My question is, wouldn't there be a chance that Serra or St Francis, depending on who wins the matchup, might play DLS in NorCals anyway? And what happens if DLS wins that game?

Its been a tough few years for my Pacers. I sure hope Reed can get things going in the right direction. I hate the offense they run. I really really hate it. To reliant on the qb to manage the zone read. And their is absolutely no threat to consistently pass the ball. Defensive coordinators must love the stupidity of the offense. Run a shotgun formation with no threat to pass the ball. Snap the ball 6 yards into the backfield, hand it off to the RB, and pray he makes it back to the line of scrimmage. Whats worse is watching the qb scrabble for his life, while everyone shouts "Throw the f...ing ball". And when you finally see a good pass, the ball is dropped. That tells me the wr's arent getting enough reps or touches in practice. The scheme doesnt fit the personnel. You have big boys on the line of scrimmage. Dive, lead, counter, power, toss sweep, and a healthy dose of timed pass plays. Along with a few wr screens. Force teams into the box with your power and size upfront. If they dare crowd the box, you now get favorable match ups in the secondary with your athletic speedy recievers. Also, get the qb the play faster and stop getting so many delay and illegal procedure penalties. Again reps. Go back to our roots and what put us on the map. Smash mouth football. Stop putting these big boys on skates and let em run down hill. Whatever you do please get rid of that vanilla style offense and develop a scheme around the talent you have. The offense wasnt bad before. It was just predictable because of bad play calling. What suprises me the most is Reed was a good ass TE. Good route runner, good hands, and a great blocker. I dont understand why he hasnt developed the TE position. In a run heavy offense the TE position can be a game breaker.

There is Definitely a Chance…. Serra and DLS would play if Serra wins the section but has 1 loss…. If Rocklin is Undefeated then they would go to the open….

For SF to play in the D1AA game they would have to lose Twice but win the section….. If Rocklin is Undefeated they would go to the Open….

I think that it comes down to The Committee wants an Undefeated Team or the team that Beat DLS to be in the Open, So as long as SF has no more then 1 loss they will be in….

Remember, they don’t like RE-Matches in the play in games…..

This notion is pretty silly. No one is changing the rules for DLS this year.

There has been some guy on Twitter responding to CalHiSports about how CCS teams should be "punished" for not scheduling a national power or several section champions. It's really stupid.

DLS lost to St. Francis. End of story. They have to wait for monumental meltdowns by both the Lancers and Padres in order to get into the Open. There's no other way.

I think Rocklin's chances for the Open are very slim. DLS's strength of schedule is so much greater that I think they'd end up still getting chosen if something bizarre were to happen in the CCS.

It will get interesting if Serra and SF split their games and the Padres take the CCS title, but I don't really see Rocklin leapfrogging the Spartans.

Almost no chance whatsoever for St. Francis to play DLS in a NorCal regional.

what if its Serra instead of St Francis?
My sense is that even if Rocklin goes unbeaten they probably won’t be chosen for the Open. The slim chance they have hangs on the idea that Serra and St. Francis split two games or that there is a huge upset for the CCS title.

The most likely scenario will be:

D-Open: SF/Serra
D-1AA: DLS vs Rocklin

If Folsom wins SJS D-I, then the CS D-I winner probably goes to face DLS.

Rocklin still likely has to beat Folsom for a second time. This time, Rocklin won't be able to exploit a back up QB.

May be time for Folsom to remind everyone who the best public program in the state over the last decade is!

:)

Looking forward to what looks like our last trip to Grant. I understand Grant will not be in the SFL next season. I though this would be a good move for the league to have a powerhouse like Grant in the league but looks like that is coming to an end.

So much talent. Let's hope they get back to where they were very soon. Look forward to Friday night Sacchiefs.

Nah- They are re-watching the game where Cen10 got smoked by San Diego's Finest, Cathedral Catholic. :)
Got it so they are showing Cen10 California’s undisputed #1 public football program. And showing they are beatable is great hopefully the message sinks in for Folsom. Don’t wilt when competition happens and good things can happen.

Use a period in your paragraph so we can understand please. I'm tired of teaching you.

And Folsom never lost to a San Diego team in the big game. Or any game as Cen10 did for that matter. Cen10 won't even get on a bus.

I hope these two programs will be back at it again. There have been some good games over the years. Plus, outside of watching a game in the heights, I have always loved watching games at Del Oro. I love the stadium, big screen tv's, and the overall enthusiasm from the fans. I typically stand at the 50 yard line and shoot the shit with some of the old Del Oro alum. It's amazing how much that stadium has changed. I don't remember the names of the legendary OG Del Oro coaches from the 90's, but when I played on the optimist team they were the coaches and we practiced there. It looked a lot different. I want to say the coaches were retiring that year. I don't remember but either way we were happy to get them the win in a classic game. That was the first time I had ever been to Del Oro or Loomis. Man that was a fun couple of weeks of practice. Plus it was cool to finally get to know some of the dudes that I played against and hated since my pop-warner days. I got a lot of respect for those kats. Good memories and good relationships started in Loomis. Plus I remember meeting up at the mexican restaurant down the street almost everyday for some good shit talking and food.

I hope you enjoy the game RR. As much as I love my Pacers, it's been a little hard to sit through a game this year.

Pasty Face just does not understand that in the hs football world of California, Centennial Corona is seen as one of the dominant teams in the state. Folsom is really an after thought and it is Folsom who was required to jump on a bus and travel to So Cal to play CC. I doubt Folsom even gets more than a #4 or #5 best public in the state the last ten years when the So Cal experts start discussing best public hs teams of the last decade. Remember, Folsom has played one of what I call the Big Four in California hs football; Mater Dei, SJB, DLS, and CC. Their record is 0-5 and not even a challenge to play the other three.

I will ask the folks "in the know" Friday night and report back. It may not be decided or public yet but we shall see. I'd like to see Jesuit join the SFL, but I am sure there are others in contention.

Centennial lost the claim when they lost to a San Diego team and banned bus riding.

I like Jesuit as well. Good program and good location. If not them, who? Maybe Antelope or Lincoln. With the new freeway being built from the Elk Grove area to the Folsom area, maybe Monterey Trail or Elk Grove? Does anyone know, is Grant the only one being realigned from the SFL?

Antelope or Lincoln would make some sense as well. Lincoln was in the SFL "juniors", so there is some experience with them and so was Antelope for a couple of years but they exited quickly after two seasons. Certainly other good options I would think. Not sure on the "why" with Grant. I had hoped that over time they would get back to the level they're capable of and give Folsom problems as well as everyone else. It would make for a better league with even more strength for all the schools coming out of league and going into playoffs. Playoffs, as you all know, is a fun run when things are going your way and playing tough opponents gets you ready for what can be the best part of the season. Good memories over the past decade of big games with everything on the line. Nothing better in high school football than the playoffs.

I remember Coach Taylor used to play some real tough preseason games over there. Follow that with a top notch league. I agree with you, the playoffs should be loose and fun. And full of life times memories (Joy and Pain). Im not sure why Grant is leaving the SFL. We haven't been the most competitive team lately but id like to see what Reed can do during his sophmore season as a Head coach before an exit. But from what another poster said, Grant maybe opting out. If so thats disappointing, but still, I understand they have to do what they feel is in there best interest. I guess im just being selfesh. I just like the idea of us playing against the best teams each week.

John Fletcher and Bob Christiansen. They were co-head coaches from 1979 through 1994 (Fletcher was the sole head coach in 1979).

So you are spot on regarding the era and when they retired.

Although Fletcher briefly ended his retirement to co-HC with Larry Wyatt in 2000 and 2001. Casey Taylor took over the program in 2002.

FWIW, it sounds like you were at Grant a few years after my HS career. When I played in the C.A.L. during the late 80's, Bob Vukajlovich was still the Pacers HC. IIRC Coach AL was the DC. I believe Hank Garcia was still there too, prior to becoming the 1st HC at Wood HS in Vacaville.
