Could DLS seek Elimination if “The Folsom Rule”?

Yeah sounds like I just missed you by a few years. For what it's worth I moved to cali In 89 and attended MLK jr high. I watched my first Grant game that year, and knew then that I wanted to be a Pacer. The atmosphere was amazing. Prior to cali I lived in the Houston area and got my first taste of football with the Katy Tigers before playing with Coach Butch and Fat Rat of the Grant Rams. I didn't know Coach V. I just played against him when he coached at Oakmont. I was on Coach Al's first championship team. Good times! Thx for the info about the Del Oro coaches and jogging my memory.

No problem. The football historian in me can’t help himself ;)

Also, I was going to ask if you played with Robert Dotson or not. Sounds like you did.

Yeah. Most tend to think Ontario was the best running back to come out of Grant. There is a good argument that he was. We would watch him play pop warner ball and dominate. Not much changed when he made it to HS. As good as he was I would lean towards Rob. Rob is the person that got me more playing time as a underclassmen. He was tall, strong, fast, and had good vision. Running style was like Adrain Peterson. He would hit the hole extremely hard and either run you over or bounce it to the outside and take it to the house. Practice was no different. Al didn't hold back in our practices. They were very competitive! With lots of talent of the field. And most that I played with had a mean streak in them and were tough around the edges. Living in the neighborhood at that time wasnt easy and we got into a lot of fight. Those fights brought us closer together as a team. Anyways as an underclassmen the first week I was moved up to varsity, Rob made it a point to try and run me over in practice. I held my ground and kept plugging the 6 hole (36 power was the play). Rob was getting a lil frustrated because Al was teasing him about me. Rob had enough and told Al lets go live! No more dummy pads. Full scrimmage! Al being a defensive minded coach was game. I can admit, Rob was an absolute beast! Play after play, I felt ever bit of his frustration in that scrimmage. But I held my own and didnt back down, Win lose or draw. Moving forward, that got me recognized by the coaches, which led to me playing a more significant role on defense that year. I really am suprised that Rob didnt make it to the league. Dude was legit. For those that never saw him, maybe you saw his son a few years ago at Antelope. He was a split image of his father's running style. But no where near the same size and physicality.

I hope these two programs will be back at it again. There have been some good games over the years. Plus, outside of watching a game in the heights, I have always loved watching games at Del Oro. I love the stadium, big screen tv's, and the overall enthusiasm from the fans. I typically stand at the 50 yard line and shoot the shit with some of the old Del Oro alum. It's amazing how much that stadium has changed. I don't remember the names of the legendary OG Del Oro coaches from the 90's, but when I played on the optimist team they were the coaches and we practiced there. It looked a lot different. I want to say the coaches were retiring that year. I don't remember but either way we were happy to get them the win in a classic game. That was the first time I had ever been to Del Oro or Loomis. Man that was a fun couple of weeks of practice. Plus it was cool to finally get to know some of the dudes that I played against and hated since my pop-warner days. I got a lot of respect for those kats. Good memories and good relationships started in Loomis. Plus I remember meeting up at the mexican restaurant down the street almost everyday for some good shit talking and food.

I hope you enjoy the game RR. As much as I love my Pacers, it's been a little hard to sit through a game this year.
Tough game with some 4th quarter excitement last night. I liked even though it was a tough season for the Pacers they did not give up and kept fighting till the end. After a game like that, I felt bad for the seniors who had just played their last game. Football goes by fast when you are young and then it's over.

It was a tense 4th quarter for both sides and both teams came back from deficits. Good atmosphere as well!
